I am absolutely amazed at the quality and build of this piece
THIS IS NOT 5 STAR for a National Act performance or for a serious studio recording... This is budget grade! That said, I am absolutely amazed at the quality and build of this piece, for what I paid. It has more settings than similar equipment at double the price. AND... It actually improved my sound. I use it to compress mics at Karaoke to protect my Speakers (Powered EONS) Karaoke singers can "cuff" a mic and blow speakers in less than a split second. Fortunately, this thing can shut them up faster. I only compress mics, not for sound, but to keep Karaoke singers from blowing my speakers. I have the limiter set at 0db, I compress 3/1 and it still sounds great. The dynamic effects, seem to add fullness to my mic mix. I would NOT recommend this for Big-Time Touring Live Band or Studio equipment, but it is exceptional for my utility (Karaoke). It does get hot, so give it some breathing room.

Great value for the non-pro or semi-pro
Its not the fanciest thing out there, but it gets the job done. Lots of features and control for a very reasonable price. Makes a huge difference in the recordings of our Pastor's vocals at church

the solution I was looking for
I have two of these now and just ordered a 3rd one, if that helps credit the liking I have of this compressor. I was looking for good 'silent' compression at less than DBX prices, and took a chance on Behringer. Essentially, it seems well built, always works well when I turn it on, and the sound is notably better using it than without, but still silent in that I didn't want a compressor that adds anything to the sound with pumping and breathing and so on. I use mine with analog synthesizers and it makes them sound like they should.. where they are too quiet, they are louder, where they are too loud, they are quieter, so it's a full good sound that still respects dynamics perfectly. The lights actually show what the unit it doing and look cool. The only cons are that I didn't notice any difference with the tube simulation enabled VS disabled and the documentation for how compression works on a basic level is lacking, so I had to learn from other sources. Once I got it set, which took maybe an hour of tweaking, now I don't even have to think about it, just turn it on and enjoy the wonderful sound it makes possible. I always notice quickly if I forget to turn it on. Highly recommended.

Problems with the build quality.
I have had mixed success with Behringer products. In the past, I have purchased a pre-amp and a pair of powered near-field monitors from the company. The pre-amp is adequate, but you can't push it without it getting noisy. The monitors, Truth B2030As, I like very much, although I have had chronic problems with one of them cutting out intermittently, which I'm guessing may be a heat-related issue with a power transistor. In short, their products perform well for the money, but their build quality is not consistent. I gave the Composer Pro-X three stars because I can't say that it's really good or really bad. I haven't had a chance to use it. A properly assembled unit may well be a great tool. Some of the reviews here seem to think so. See also the review at soundonsound.com. But I had to return mine because the moment I turned it on, it buzzed. Not a buzz through the speakers, but an audible buzz coming right through the chassis. It sounded like a flaky transformer, and was simply not acceptable in a studio situation. I've had such uneven experiences with this and other Behringer products as mentioned above that I don't trust their build consistency. It's a pity.

Surprisingly good quality especially for the price
I think this compressor is one of the best values on the market. The controls give you many options in configuration, including a really good "auto" setting, The sound is clean and the controls are well laid out. The basic difference between this and the MDX4600 is 2 channels on this unit as opposed to 4 and much more control over attack and release and De-Esser. If you are doing music, you will probably be more happy with this unit because of the finer controls. If you are doing live or spoken word only, the 4600 is even a better value because of the 4 channels. If I had to post a negative I would probably say the De-Esser is the lease effective part of this unit. But I think this compares very well to higher priced DBX and Symetrix units.

Worth every penny!
Sometimes Behringer can be hit or miss, but they really got it right with this compressor. Even before I had it completely dialed in, I noticed a huge difference in sound quality. I have had mine for awhile now and will admit that I am very impressed with what it is capable of. I use mine mainly on mics run back to a Mackie mixer to an insert. The compression is fantastic, gate works flawlessly. For the price you really cant go wrong with this product. Takes a little time to really get it dialed in, but worth it in the long run. Have had no problems with mine. Manual is very basic but there is a more detailed version on their website that you can download and print. All in all I would recommend this to anyone shopping in this price range.

Nice unit
The replacement I got works great. No issues so far. I'm finding this to be pretty easy to use, and haven't had any issues taming vocals with it so far.

It makes us sound great!
Behringer makes great stuff, affordably priced. The MDX2600 is an excellent example. After installing one in our church sound system, I purchased a second one for a band I play in. It is part of the audio processing chain in the gear we take on the road. We don't have a sound engineer riding levels out in the audience. The MDX2600 does that for us, and it makes us sound great! The best compliment I can give it is that you can't hear it. You don't realize it is there. The audience simply hears music that is consistently mixed with the correct balance of instruments and vocals. That is difficult to maintain given all the variables of live performances at different venues. The MDX2600 gets it done, effortlessly.

I read the SoS review on this and decided to but based on that alone, I have not been disappointed. Behringer's German engineering is not to be underestimated, this module does exactly what is says on the tin I have pushed it to every extreme my nafairious mind can think of trying top find weaknesses and everything works seamlessly.! The gate is very handy but only comes with 2x release times but it is still very useful and slopes off quietly The compressor is in-audible and effective, what more can one say? The de-esser + peak limiter are very useful + you can a side chain though your desk for post production. A good pre-amp/desk is needed if using condenser mics, but if you don't know that, you probably aren't reading this...! £94......Bargain, If you have £5000 to spend on kit then of course you will find better , but if that were the case you won't be reading this either.... This is aimed at the budget end of the market, but it really doesn't sound or feel like a budget unit at all. Don't mess about with other budget audio processors, Behringer have been making units in this range for a long time and they have got damn good at it, most of their stuff gives the £400+ ranges a run for their money imho.... Highly recommend to anyone that is after a budget but good processor, Seller also very good.
