**Q: how many pounds can each shelf safely hold?**
A: IDK! I was never able to put it together

**Q: Is hardware necessary for assembling included (screws, brackets) ?**
A: Everything is included.  All you need are some tools.

**Q: Can you stain this?**
A: It feels unfinished and does npr appear to have a gloss coat. I like the color it is and it hasn't faded yet. So I would say yes.
