If you’re not experienced with opening oysters this may not be the knife for you the point on this will cause you serious problems if and when it slips

The two 3Cr14 stainless blades are thick and rigid, seated in Pakka wood handles with guards that help prevent slips; they open oysters cleanly and handle clams and mussels too. The included Level-5 cut-resistant gloves help with cuts but aren’t puncture-proof, so still use care. Hand-wash only due to the wood; do not dishwash. Ergonomics are fine though the handle may feel small for large hands, and the holster is basic. For the price, it’s a reliable starter set that holds up through dozens of oysters; heavy shuckers may want a larger, pro-grade knife.

I purchased this knife because I thought the length of the blade & wood handle would make it more functional and durable--I particularly liked the hand guard near the heel of the blade. However, one year later I was shucking oysters and the tip of the knife broke! Of course I was about one dozen oysters in on a half bushel. Overall, it was a great buy and more times than not, it made popping open the oysters fairly simple and fast. It is easy to clean and the perfect ergonomic size for an average adult or woman. My only suggestion if you are buying this for a one-time oyster job for a few dozen--then this will work for you. But if you are a true "oystertainer" you should buy more than one! This way you will always have a backup in the event that one breaks AND you will have plenty of gloves to go with it.

I was a little skeptical of the quality when I ordered it but I needed it on a tight timeline (New Years) and was looking for something cost effective as I needed to buy a few of them. The quality far exceeded my expectation. The handle has the feel of a quality kitchen knife and allowed us to shuck oysters with confidence of not slipping and impaling ourselves. The storage sheath is a nice bonus. The gloves are of average quality but effective. I did find the sizing to be a little tight, I would order one size up.

These are good for getting into the shell. But as far as scraping the meat away from the shell, not so much. They are pretty to look at but my eight dollar boring.Oyster knife is way better. And as a chef, i've shucked plenty of oysters.

looks good and sharp , havent use it yet but according to other that i have used to open shells looks ok , firm , and solid having 2 on that price helps because you can have them in differnt places or have one where usually harvest shells , oysters etc and another one on the go with your personal knife set if you have one. The gloves are an extra i cant think of how many times i have cut my hands during oyster opening espessialy for the ones that are like solid rock
