Would you be able to play this game via video chat if only one person had the game?

Yes and it would work well. You need to be able to see the cards, which have visual clues on them, so I presume you could do with a webcam or something suspended above the table. You could hold the cards up or swing your phone over them but it would not be terribly satisfactory.

Can you play with 5 people?

There are only 4 characters so strictly speaking, the answer is no. However, the game is cooperative and you can play the 4 characters as a team if you want.

Can you play this as just one player

Hi, you can play this 1 player according to Thames and Kosmos, I don't have experience of playing the Adventure Games series, in the Exit series you certainly could but I found it helped to have other peoples input to the puzzle nature of those games.
