Thrilling Gift For Titanic Enthusiasts
I can't be sure that this is indeed an authentic piece of coal from the Titanic. Since it's supposedly a nugget taken from a larger piece of "authentic" coal, it comes with a certificate of authenticity that is itself a copy/reproduction. The certification is shared among all the smaller pieces of the original and it seems that different sizes of the coal come with different sizes of certificate (that also have different appearances/layouts). But, taking a leap of faith, I decided to purchase a coal nugget for my Titanic-obsessed son, who had this type of coal on his Christmas wish list. Other pieces of coal I found on Amazon were quite small (with certificate reproductions that were likewise small). This piece of coal is the size of a small rock--i.e., a little larger around than a quarter--and has a certificate about the size of an award certificate. The coal is mounted on the certificate and the whole thing came in a plastic casing (not the most sturdy, but decent enough) that my son was able to stand up on a shelf to display. I paid $59.99 for this gift. Assuming it is authentic Titanic coal and given how much my son loved having his wish fulfilled, I like it a lot. But, for those of us who aren't faithful believers in such memorabilia or avid enthusiasts of Titanic, I give it a 4-star rating because the price tag is a little hefty for a question mark.
