Review: A Travel Guide for your Android Device - The form factor on this book reminds me of a Lonely Planet travel guide. It is portable and "rough" - with some top-level information. I am a Google Glass Explorer and needed to do a switch from iOS to Android in order to experience the most from Glass. That said, I wanted a quick overview of Android and this book provided me with a cursory look at the basic operations in this mobile OS. Granted, this version covers "Ice Cream Sandwich" (I love the names of the OS) and I have Jellybean on my Nexus 4. The overview was still good though and the application recommendations were welcomed. This is a book that covers the basics ... but it also touches upon rooting your device and ROMs. It doesn't show you how to root your device (this is probably a good thing given the typical audience that may purchase this book) but it does lead you to resources that can help you learn how to root your particular phone or tablet if you wish to do so. Overall a good, basic and handy little book geared for the Android newbie. None of what it contains isn't stuff you could not gather yourself on the Internet with reading forums and researching. I just wanted and needed a good jump-off point to try to learn what I don't know and delve deeper. I like it a lot. Definitely a book for newbies. Review: It helped make sense of somethings. - I am a senior and this book helped me understand a lot of things about my tablet that I purchased and came with very little instructions.

Chock-Full of Tips despite its publishing date
This book is a little older, but it is "chock-full" of great tips that still apply today to understanding the underlying technology and principles driving the design, development and purchase of android phones and tablets. Also provides websites to which one may go for further info. Have yet to do so, so not sure if they are still there, but for the price it is a quick little read and I repeat my first sentence.

A basic guide with lots of App info
The book covers Android Ice Cream Sandwich (version 4.0) I was looking for a book that gives a really in-depth description of the Android operating system. This is the wrong book for that purpose. The first 62 pages give a decent overview of many of the system's features and how they are used but the bulk of the book is an overview of Android Apps, what they do, any how they operate. Its not a bad book but the title is misleading. it should be called something like "A guide to Android and Apps you might like".

Indispensible.
This is a very important Guide fro first time purchasers. I found it very valuable as it condenses all the necessary knowledge that is either missing from the Tablet/Phone "Guides" or is very badly explained. An excellent book, well worth the money.

Good resource guide
Concise and well laid out. Not as in depth as other guides I own but worth the price.

Great book.
I recently came out of the stone age and purchased a smart phone and a nexus 7. This book has been a great help in learning how to turn the things on. Now all I have to do is figure out how to use em'.

I recommend this book unreservedly.
A very thorough introduction to Android followed by a detailed walk-through of the various facilities available. I bought it as a primer to possibly migrating to an Android- based phone when my Nokia E72 contract expires soon. I don't think it's a "Rough" guide, at all! Excellent.

Tres utile lorsque vous n'y connaissant pas grand chose dans la nouvelle technologie! Nous le recommandons aux personnes d'un 'certain age'.
