I'm 36 now and wish these had been around as a child. They hold well without tugging and pulling, and they really don't track my hair after wearing a ponytail all day. It's amazing. They do a very tiny negligible amount... but the natural wave of my hair makes it completely imperceptible. I think if my hair were naturally super straight it might cause a small dent, but I don't think it would be very noticeable.
