Bromelain is mainly known as the "pineapple enzyme" because it has its origin there. Also the name "Bromelin" is relatively common. It is an enzyme blend obtained from ripe fruits or from the stem of the fruit. Industrially, however, bromelain from the stem is almost always used.
Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme, which means that it is capable of breaking down proteins. Among other things, it can help digestion, especially when the diet is very protein-rich. The bromelain by Vitamintrend has an enzyme activity of 1800 F.I.P. (Fédération Internationale Pharmaceutique) and 900 GDU (Gelatin Digesting Units) per capsule.
