This will work, But most steel guitar player would prefer a small wattage tube amp for the traditional sound.

According to other vendors sites, the footswitch is included with the champion 100.  your specifications say it is optional . is it included or not?

does this amp work well with fender strats?

Amplifiers are independent from guitars, any guitar will work with any amp assuming they both have 1/4" audio jacks (always should).  If you are asking if it sounds good through this amp, that is complicated to explain because both the guitar and the amp posses their own tonal qualities, but overall you can make an amp (especially one with a modeller and effects like this one) sound like whatever you want, whether you have the sustain of a Les Paul or the twang of a Strat.  So basically, even though this is just an opinion of course, you are asking if this amp sounds good.  And my response would be yes, this amp sounds very good for the price.  Does it compare to my Marshall? Heck no, but the key phrase here is that it is VERY VERY good for the price, it would be hard to find a better amp for only 300 dollars new.

Will the 100 watts stand up to a marshall halfstack? Would it be loud enough to play at a show?

A 100 watt Fender will easily keep up with a Marshall half stack . While  Marshals are known for their unique sound  , watt for watt , the aren't any louder than a Fender or even an old Ampeg . Also , if you are playing a show , you will likely be patched into a pa system , you will be heard .
