It's a great knife as the reviews show. I'm going to give my advice on forcing a patina on the blade to protect it from rust in the field. There's many ways to force a patina but I like the solid color, charcoal gray to black.The first thing you want to do is clean the blade thoroughly with alcohol, I used plain rubbing alcohol. Next bring Apple cider vinegar to a boil then fill a glass with it. Place the knife into the glass being sure the blade is fully submerged. You'll immediately see the chemical reaction as bubbles will come off of the knife blade. I left it in for about 45 minutes before rinsing it under cold water then cleaning it in alcohol again. Boil up a second batch and repeat as many times as you'd like until you get the desired results. It took me two times to reach what is seen in my pictures. Afterwards dry it thoroughly and apply a thin layer of oil, preferably mineral oil as its food grade acceptable. Using Apple cider vinegar and mineral oil keeps the knife food grade and great for food prep!The end results look professional and the oil almost soaks in to the finish! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing scary sharp knife *by W***B on June 12, 2014* This knife has over 240 five star reviews on amazon, is recommended for its quality and value by survival experts and is the most affordable quality knife period. Very few knives in the world enjoy such broad support and they are so reasonably priced everyone should own a Mora. The companion HD like the robust HQ and the bushcraft models have a thicker blade than standard mora knives and that thickness is constant throughout the entire spine up to the tip. This thickness combined with a wider angle to the blade makes the companion HD suitable to baton wood and other hardcore knife work. My thinner bladed Mora #1 does fine work like thin slicing onions better than the thick bladed companion HD but I prefer a blade that flexes less and the added durability. 1/8 inch is generally considered to be the minimum thickness for a good quality fixed blade knife. The sharpness of the blade is what impresses me most about mora knives. It takes a sharper edge than any other knife I own even other carbon steel blades. After stropping this blade it can cut space and time, it's mind bendingly sharp, sharper than a strait razor. Carbon steel bladeslike this one can easily be used to create sparks for firestarting. I believe that is why this knife does not have a Sharp 90° edge on the spine of the blade. Although it does have a 90° edge on the spine at the very tip that can strike a fero rod. This knife is carbon steel and as such will stain as soon as you start using it. I used it for one weekend camping for all of my knife needs, when I got home it was pretty rusty(SEE CUSTOMER IMAGES) even though I had oiled it before leaving home. To help prevent corrosion many people online have put a forced patina on this and other mora carbon bkade knives. I had great success using vinegar to force a patina(SEE CUSTOMER IMAGES) and find it's more rust resistant, retains oil on the blade better and looks cooler! If you want a pretty shiny blade get a stainless steel mora not this knife. This knife is intended by Mora for any task including heavy tasks like batoning and job site cutting. In Sweden this style knife is used in place of utility knives and box cutters in the USA. I use this knife as a light backcountry camping knife that pulls heavy duty as the main use knife for me and my wife.Overall it's a micron sharp work/beater/bushcraft knife for pros in the know. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a blade!
