They look a lot like glass but they are not; they are acrylic. I was expecting something to be wrong with these due to some of the reviews. This is my first set of grinders (other than the prefilled/not refillable ones), and since they were on sale, for a very big discount, I decided to buy them. Well nothing is wrong with them at all. The salt grinder is wide open when you get them so before use be sure to tighten it up and go from there to your preference. Otherwise, like me, you will have a mess on your hands. I used sea salt and I prefer a fine grind and the tightest grind gives that. The pepper was fine using peppercorns. They look nice, as well. My kitchen décor is black, silver and white, so how much better can that be?With all that said...unless they are on sale, the original price, in my opinion, is too high. I would not have paid that much for these grinders. I hope they last a long while.

Other reviewers have discussed how fine the grinders grind - I had thought I was in trouble at first, because the pepper grinder was pushing out almost full peppercorns, but I quickly realized it was adjustable and I had to adjust it a lot, but am so far happy with how they grind. My initial feeling is that they are not very durable - and round so if they roll off the counter, I think they will break - if I realized they were this delicate (in my mind anyway) I might have chosen a different product - four stars for now - but I will repost if one rolls off the counter and see what happens.

When I first opened this there was no instructions, but really I didn't need them. Just unscrew on the silver area and fill. Adjust the knob in top for the grind that you want and you are ready to go. Remember to keep the extra piece that you get somewhere you will remember, just in case. They look beautiful and fit most decors. They are a little larger than expected, but that just means that I don't have to refill them as often. Dropped a couple of times while I was cooking and even though they seem fragile, they held up. Fits nicely in the hand so it is easier to grind.

Good size, but not entirely satisfied with the grinding of peppercorns. Adjusting toward a finer grind was still producing pretty large chunks, and when I set it as far as it could go toward fine, after a few grinds something popped loose in the mechanism. It wasn't broken but I had to take it all apart and reassemble it. Probably I will be looking for something else.

Very disappointed with these grinders. The black pepper grinder never really worked properly but it was good enough...just bigger chunks of pepper than I would usually use and adjusting made no difference. Just a short time later a black ring fell off the inside near the grinding mechanism and it no longer worked. I just realized that this happened a day or so after my "return window" was closed. Really not impressed because Target would take back a defective product after that much time. Won't order this type of item from Amazon again because it is not worth the hassle.

These look nice and definitely match my kitchen decor of grey, black, and stainless steel -- arrive empty, obviously. The grind screw seems a bit loose even on the tightest setting and the grind doesn't seem terribly consistent -- there are many times where it seems like the salt just falls out of the grinder (and I'm using larger sea salt crystals, not just Morton's!). Thankfully it's easy enough to control and there's no such thing as too much pepper in my house, so all is good!

The pepper grinder is crappy and no matter how small I twist the inner part for smaller pieces it still spits out these huge pieces of pepper. It seems to work well for the salt, I just don't think these are hardy enough to handle the bigger peppercorns.
