Airthings-292 Wave Mini - Indoor Air Quality - Chemicals (TVOCs), Humidity, Temperature 20 x 30 x 1

I have 4 Airthings Wave Minis and 1 Airthings ViewPlus to monitor air quality in my newly built home. I was concerned about air quality as I made my home very airtight and energy efficient. Primary concern was VOC's and temperature variations throughout the home. There are 4 in-floor heating zones monitored by 4 Nest Thermostats for the floor heating and a total of 13 Fujitsu mini split cassettes. In a newly built home, you have many potential sources of VOC's including caulk, paint, stain, glues, etc. as well as unknown carbon dioxide (I have 8 Nest Protects to monitor CO) and radon. Results of about a year of use: I was surprised when the particulates got high during fire season and I placed 3 Winix air cleaners which run continuously and keep the PMs low or below detectable levels. You can see the PMs get lower as the air cleaners run. Since the house was open quite a bit during the "extended" build time, VOC's from building materials had mostly gone away. What was interesting were the VOC's from human occupancy. I spent over 45 years using NIST-traceable temperature data loggers, radiation detection and assay equipment, timing devices, etc and even visited the NIST facilities in Maryland getting a radioactive source calibrated against a primary standard. At that time, it was still the National Bureau of Standards. Accuracy Question: I know from years of experience that unless you can verify the accuracy of a device using either a certified testing lab or your own NIST-traceable equipment, you can only rely on the reputation of the manufacturer (just like the mfr claims of dietary supplements and disinfectants). Airthings has a great reputation so I'll have to go with that. Pros: 1) Can view all monitors on the Airthings app on your phone (provided you have a hub). 2) Airthings reputation. Cons: 1) Need to purchase an expensive hub unless you can walk around and read the devices via Bluetooth OR you have an Airthings ViewPlus which has a hub built-in-which I have. 2) No carbon monoxide detector. Bottom Line: I believe Airthings are the best consumer devices available. Since we have to rely on the manufacturer's reputation for the claims they make on the device measurement accuracy, Airthings is one of the best so I chose their devices.

Works as it should. What a great device. I found a sewer gas leak in my home and that hvac was faulty at 25 years old based on air things device data. Very much worth it!! Just with the mini and the plus being rotated throughout the home.

My initial review was negative. I bought two to try to triangulate where smoke was entering my apartment. After getting strange results I put them right next to each other, and they were still showing different information. I reached out to support. They acknowledged the issue and informed me that they had a firmware update that would fix it. They checked in with me a few times to ensure that after the update things were going well. Unfortunately I had to return one, so I haven't been able to cross check them with the new firmware. It's now been almost 6 months. Using the airthings I was able to find where the smoke is getting in. The app is garbage still. It often can't sync and I have to kill it to make it work. Pretty sure it's tied to Bluetooth. It freaks out if Bluetooth is off when you start the app and doesn't appear to recover until killed and started with Bluetooth on. The graphs in the app are garbage. Options for scale are 48h, 1 week, 1 month, and 1 year, and you can't pan the graph. It's stupid enough to just average the quality for those ranges. That means you can only see spikes from the last 48 hours, because they average out on higher time frames. It should give a triple graph with high, average, and low values. You should be able to select a section of the graph in the past and zoom into it. Nope. For no reason at all air quality is hugely tied to air temperature. Cold day, air quality is red? That's dumb. I'm going to try to get another TVOC monitor to cross check this. So far it's not a con, because I can't check it, but I'm wary of it after the two I initially got didn't check out. Pros: -battery life, still at 96% after almost 6 months -size -seems to be measuring correctly now -can download all the data through website -good support Cons: -terrible app -terrible terrible app -only resolves to like 5 minutes, should be able to set it down to 5 seconds and use more battery

Even if you hit the sync button, it doesn't update till it feels like. That might be an entire 5 minutes or 10+ minutes which sounds like not a big deal until you are trying to figure out if VOCs are any less if you turn your boiler off in the middle of winter to see if you should get a journeyman heater person out there to inspect your exhaust and system. Or if it's maybe just the mint plants you had inside after it frosted and you removed them but you can't get the thing to update yet to on the boiler bc it's probably just better to let all the pipes freeze at this point and demolish the whole thing bc I haven't slept over 3 hours in a week as PPB stays over 3000 ppb and we're talking about moving in a hotel bc I'm coughing up fluid, migraines and incredibly sick from it. But no, please, take your sweet time syncing to no doubt save battery life which we'd be willing to replace as they're RECHARGEABLE but you know what can't be replaced? A negative cancer diagnosis. Just ordered some kind of point source detector equipment but unfortunately it doesn't sync w any app or have any historical data retention/graphs. Husband's seriously looking at BUYING a freaking mini Rae 3000 PID meter for over $4k in an attempt to save our house. Freaking Atmotube had a better product back when it was around $100, then someone snorted capitalism laced w greed and made it $300 - $400. It's back to something like $170 but I haven't decided to end my boycott till they get all the Musk ideology out of the company bc it was on no planet worth that. The graphs were infuriating. Absolutely refuse to update their graphs and app. We'll see how this other $100 gas detector goes. Maybe just buy a $4K Mini Rae and not nickel and dime yourself w products that are barely functional, I don't know. I'd pay that much for sleep rn but not to corporations that try to take advantage of "inflation" by causing it themselves just hoping for record breaking profits. (Mini Rae is top of the line professional gear btw, normal people shouldn't want this for a single use in a residential house lol)

below is a similar review I posted for for wave plus I was originally looking just for a smart radon tester before I installed a radon mitigation system and found the airthings wave system. at first I purchased the home kit which comes with a older wave 2nd gen, the hub and mini wave from Amazon warehouse (openbox). I had some issues with the hub as it was already registered and didn't want to mess with support who wasn't available 24/7 and ended up returning everything . during the initial setup I also (wrongly assumed) that the units would be WiFi/Ip based but the stand alone sensors only work via bluetooth or via radio with the hub. also without the hub the data isn't constantly recorded . I then ordered this new sensor wave plus, 2 mini waves and the hub (quite costly). setup was a breeze, unbox the sensors, download the app, register for an account, connect the sensor via bluetooth to your phone , update firmware and it's readym Then you plug in your hub add to the sensors to the hub via your phone. With the wave2 the radon level was high (as suspected as ally neighbors got their radon level tested professionally for 150 bucks . What I didn't expect was the co2 and VOC levels to be high in the house as well as high humidity levels in the basement. the co2 we were able to lower by opening windows and airing out the house, and humidity levels controlled with a dehumidifier in the basement. As far as the VOC i started looking into UV lights in the hvac and ultimately ended up with a Airscrubber by aerus installed from my hvac guy. after the airscrubber and hvac fans running the airthings wave sensor picked up the improvements. the web dashboard also is has a lot better data and is easier to see track historical data than the app as the app will show you real time stats we well as historical but can't zoom in on the data or set a custom time frame (zoom in). also the wave mini has mold detection but the wave plus does not and the wave plus (primarily for radon) has co2 detection but the mini does not so would like a unified sensor even if it cost more as well as the ability to have wifi (although this will prob drain the battery) I'd also like an option of hardwiring the sensor similar to a smoke detector and alert/push notifications for user or presets thresholds so I don't have to constantly monitor. overall great product but will make you think about how to improve the air quality after seeing the data :)

It's nice to have a cheaper option to put in a different room that doesn't need all the features but it disconnects a lot and sometimes misses large chunks of time because of that.

Absolutely love being able to check 1 app for multiple devices. The temp monitoring was the original motivation but appreciate knowing when to air out the house.

not much numbers you can read from this mini, but it can connect to the view plus, good enough and you can read all the number in phone app, easy to use

should give CO2 aswell, but the omly product I know who controls mold

Works good, would be nice with some more sensors but it was cheap so..

I have multiple airthings sensors in my home now and I really like them. Battery life is long and monitored by the device / available in home assistant or the app. The Airthings integration in HA works well for me and the devices are rugged and reliable.
