Question 1

I've never used a fountain pen before.  How do I start the ink so that I can write with it?  Do I need to heat it or soak it?  Thank you.

Fountain pen ink is almost entirely water, with dyes and antibacterial compounds added. It will flow from the pen by capillary action, automatically.  Once you fill it, the ink should flow through the channels in the feed (the black ridged part, under the nib) within a few minutes.  Keep your pen capped when not in use (because like water, the ink will evaporate, and you'll be left with sludge in the feed channels), and you should not have any problem getting it to write.  Be sure to only use fountain pen ink (and NOT inks with pigments or shellac, like calligraphy or india inks, which will solidify in the feed channels and nib).  Write with it nib-side up, and feed-side down - you will find that it takes no pressure at all to write, unlike a ball-point pen where you need to bear down to get the ball to rotate.Ignore the chatter on the web about how expensive some inks are. I've been using Pilot Iroshizuku inks (the most expensive, at $25/bottle) for 6 months now, and have not used a tenth of the bottle.  At that rate, it will last me 5 years, which comes out to $5 a year for ink, and that's pretty affordable on any budget.These Jinhao pens are sturdy, but do try not to drop it, as you may get ink splatter inside the cap that will get all over the grip and your fingers.

Headline says "Fountain Pen Silver" but product description says "Fountain Pen Green Marble". Photos are green marble. Which color did you receive?

I ordered the same pen and it was a dark, marbled green, which is a very nice color. The pen is very good regarding it's weight and is a smooth writer.

What kind of converter can I buy to replace the terrible one that came with this pen?

I purchased the converter recommended by Jinhao. (The screw type)  I have had no problem with my pen.  I also purchased the International ink cartridge.  I think that you'll find these items will make your life with your pen a great relationship.

Can this be ordered with a fine nib?
