THIS STUFF IS AWESOME
So I am a mead maker and this product has been what REVOLUTIONED my mead making. I add it into my must during primary fermentation or even on secondary that is just aging and it has done wonders for my mead. It clears up a lot of that gunk and stuff still in suspension that gives a nasty taste to your mead which will fall out with aging. But i can say this speeds up my aging process by at LEAST 5 months maybe even more. If you have a mead that has been aging and doesn't quite have the taste you want it to have then I suggest that you buy this. A little bit goes a long way and it is so satisfying to see all of the stuff that falls to the bottom in such a short time. the picture above had no sediment at the bottom until i added the bentonite and it tasted BEAUTIFUL afterward. One picture was during primary fermentation and it definitely helped remove a lot of stuff early one which is when you're supposed to add bentonite to be most effective.

Works
Put 1/2 tablespoon in one gallon of mead after transferring to a second one gallon bottle. A few days later a large amount of sediment on the bottom of the bottle and clear mead. Then I took a previous batch of mead I made that was pretty cloudy and had been bottled. I pour the bottles back into a one gallon bottle and added again 1/2 tablespoon of bennonite. Two days later the mead was clear. This stuff really works.

my favorite clarifier.
i've tried a few different fining agents and even the bentonite/sparkalloid combo. And come of my prettiest looking wine come from just using bentonite. you can use is pretty much anything. I personally use it after fermentation has completed, i rack to a new container add my bentonite and in a day you can see it clearing. I personally dont like sparkalloid, seems to be slow, and seem to lead to sediment in some bottles since sparkaloid in theory can take up a month to clear. when using it as part of a combo, it seems to take a step backward. What i mean is that i get a really clear product after bentonite, if followed with sparkalloid it causes cloudness that last for two to three weeks. so im not a big fan of the sparkalloid/bentonite combo. Bentonite i love by itself. if i want to super polish my wine, i filter after bentonite.

Inconclusive for me.
Inconclusive: Unfortunately i did not notice this product do anything. The bottles i treated at the first fermentation clarified at the same speed as the bottles left to naturally clarify. There was no noticeable difference in clarity between treated and non treated bottles except before handling the non treated bottles where notably clear, after riddling the gunk all bottles had same clarity level. I added some of this product to a few more bottles to see if it would make a difference in the final steps as the clarity would be considered “drinkable” by some home brewers, i dont drink this was for fun so i wanted to go for crystal clear, i will note adding this bentonite did change the sediment color and made the sediment stick to the bottle more, but i did not see any additional measurable or notable difference between the 3 bottle groups. One bottle of sparkling pink wine treated with bentonite for second clarifying process did look considerably better than any other bottle, i chose to determine this an outlier occurring by chance. Unfortunately my project got no farther as the corks on my bottles came free some time after the second rebottling ruining all of the yield. Notes: Natural yeast, 3 brand name yeasts. Pink, red, white. Sparkling & flat. Goal: i wanted to take a bottle from concentrate and with no effort produce a quality wine in the same bottle. Conclusion: failed, you can go almost all the way, but you will need to rebottle, brand name yeast absolutely is the way to go if your trying this (i have natural yeast and natural fermentation experience: its not that it didnt work just trust me) also be very very very careful to pay attention to what kind of plastic the juice comes in. Red star was better for the white and leviton or whatever worked better for red. Im not sure why some came out flat and some sparkling that was all chance. Do not use this as conclusive information for your purchase, i did not read or follow bentonite instructions or any instructions i read about how to make wine a few years ago, ive been doing fermentations for various applications and on a whim said i bet i can buy a bottle of juice maybe a packet of yeast and get killer wine....i was almost correct, i think with a second try i will get some killer wine. Hopefully ill have pictures of the process and a more solid answer on if this product made any difference. I will restructure this review at that time.

Just what I needed to clarify my small batch of homemade wine. Received quickly with directions and good packaging. I would recommend this and will buy again when I run out.
