Excellent spice organizing solution!
I love the whole collection of the Libbey Vibe jars. I purchased 6 sets of this 4-1/2 oz size to store all of my spices and have some extra for adding to my collection and/or in case of breakage. I also purchased these jars in the other sizes offered. I am happy to say they were packed well and not one jar arrived broken. I am using this 4-1/2 oz size for regular size jars of spices (such as McCormick), and they fit the whole amount just fine if you shake it down just a bit. I also purchased chalkboard labels (by Ziggyboard) that fit on the caps of these jars since I am storing them in a drawer. There are other sizes and shapes of labels that will work just fine for these if you are planning to store them in a cabinet. I love the design and functionality of these jars, and how much more organized and accessible my spice collection is now! A note on the labels that are stuck to each jar: I've seen a couple of reviews stating it was difficult to scrape the labels off the bottom. Instead of trying to peel or scrape, I simply soaked the jars in hot soapy water for a few minutes, and the labels came right off by just wiping across the bottom with my sponge. No scrubbing or scraping, it could not have been easier! The jars needed to be washed anyway since they're holding food. I found the 42 oz size Vibe jars are great for holding the large 1-lb size containers of spices (the ones you might purchase from Costco for example), 12-1/2 oz size are good for those spice jars that are larger than a regular size jar but smaller than the 1-lb sizes, and I use the 62-oz size for cinnamon sticks and kosher salt. These jars have made my spice drawer and cabinet so much more attractive and efficient. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants an organized kitchen.

Perfect for spices.
In my opinion, these are the perfect spice jars. The top seals well to keep out air. And the glass is a good thickness too. The picture is misleading to me because it looks pretty thin. It's probably not going to survive a drop to the floor, but it's not ultra fragile either. When I pour the spices in, I give it a good solid set of taps on my hard counters to pack it down. The mouth is nice & wide too for spoons. Before I got these, I had spice *tins*. I glued rare earth magnets in them. And they attached to the inside of my cabinet door on metal bars. This looked really nice and has worked well for the past 7 years. But some of the magnets are starting to lose some strength. And the other issue is that some of spices have started reacting with the tins. The tins also don't hold the air out quite as well. Powders in particular will often form a lump. I think these glass jars will be the better way to go, although I did get good use out of the tins and they would probably last a few years more. Each jar has a label on the bottom. But soaking the jar for a few minutes in soapy water allowed it to come right off. They needed to be washed anyway.

Best spice jars ever!
For several years I have been buying spices in bulk and reusing the jars the spices came in originally, which meant I had an assortment of brands, sizes, and shapes. After moving to a new place with a smaller kitchen, we decided it was time to organize the spices to take up less space. I didn't want jars that came with a spice rack, I just wanted nice looking jars. After reading reviews about many different products I found the Libby jars which had outstanding reviews overall and we decided to start with one set of 12. After buying the second set of 12 I am now ready to review them. Things I like: They arrive well packaged -- almost wastefully packaged -- so there is no chance of breakage during shipping. The jars are a nice weight and the lids seal tightly. The size is great and holds a nice amount of spice (or whatever you're storing), and with the wide mouth I can measure straight from the jar with measuring spoons. With a labeler (I bought Epson LabelWorks LW-400 Label Maker (C51CB70010) ) they just plain look great -- I can label both the spice and the tare weight so I can easily refill it with bulk spices. The wide base means I won't accidentally knock over the jar (though it might mean it won't fit on your spice rack). Things other reviews have mentioned as cons that I disagree with: - The lid seal being too tight. -- It's great to grab a jar by the lid and know it's not going to come off and the jar fall and break. Also, it's great knowing that my spices are sealed away from other scents. If you're having trouble opening a jar, try pulling the lid at an angle. - They don't hold a "full-size" spice bottle. -- Another review mentioned this, but it depends on what you think is a "full-size" spice bottle. During my conversion I easily dumped many "full-size" McCormick spice bottles into the jars with no problem. Another consideration: spices lose their flavor quickly so try buying in bulk so you can pay less and have smaller quantities on hand. - The labels on the bottom don't come off. -- As other reviewers have mentioned this can easily be solved with rubbing alcohol or, my fave, baking soda. For the baking soda method, soak all the jars in water mixed with baking soda. After a few minutes the labels will just slide off. Overall, these are 5 star jars. I will be buying a third set of 12 to round out the spice collection, and maybe even some of the larger ones because I like their look.

Good, Pretty Jars
These are pretty and heavy glass jars. They are a good 'middle' size for spices (I like to buy spices either from the bulk bin or in the plastic bags and transfer to these jars. The jars fit well into a drawer for nice neat storage. I put a label (homemade with a Brother P-Touch) on the side and the top so I can see the label when I open the drawer. A label on top only is not the best idea because if you open 2 jars you might get confused which lid is for which spice (with some spices. These jars are NOT good for liquids, but do work very well for dry spices. I think they are a little small for items like Bay Leaves, but a bit big for others which are generally sold in smaller amounts (cayenne & allspice). I also used my labeler to create directions or recipes for things like Carne Asada seasoning or spice combos used for dip recipes. Be sure to remove the labels from the bottom of the jars BEFORE you fill them. I put them in just a small amount of warm water in the sink for a few minutes and the labels came off very easily. Do not use too much water in the sink or the jars will tip and you will have to dry out the inside before filling.

Very good, but one big flaw
Cooking is one of the few hobbies that I still enjoy regularly. (If we didn't have to eat every day, I probably wouldn't find time for that, either.) Correspondingly, I maintain a large spice collection, and frequently hunt for new additions when I travel. Over time, my spice cabinet has become virtually unusable, owing both to the number of spices, and the various sizes/shapes/languages/etc. of the bottles, boxes, bags, and other containers. For several years, I have been seeking a solution for organizing my spices that: o Is uniform (for functional and aesthetic reasons) o Fits in a drawer, rather than a cabinet or rack o Travels well (I often cook with my own spices when visiting family) o Is inert (e.g. glass, stainless; no plastic) o Looks nice I am happy to say that the Libbey Vibe spice jars meet all of the criteria above, and have been an excellent addition to my kitchen over the past few weeks. Some additional features that I particularly like about these jars: + I can see through the glass lids when looking down on the spice drawer + The lids fit very tightly, for freshness and while traveling + The wide mouths accommodate standard measuring spoons + The wide base is very stable; I haven't tipped one yet + There are matching, larger jars (12, 27, 42, and 64 oz) for other dry goods storage Also, either the jars are very strong, Amazon does a great packing job, or both. When one of my orders arrived, the outer box was so visibly crushed that the UPS driver actually asked if I wanted to open the box before he left. I said yes, assuming that I would find a box full of glass dust. Surprisingly, every jar and lid was intact. Kudos to Libbey and Amazon. These jars are not perfect, however. They have one major flaw, and a few minor ones. Most importantly: - The jars are too small to hold a full, "standard" bottle of spices By "standard" I mean the types of bottles that you find in a typical U.S. grocery store, such as for McCormick or Morton and Basset spices. For powders, I can whack the bottom of the Libbey jar about 20 times to compress the contents, then typically force the rest of a store-bought jar into it by carefully pouring and squashing with the lid. This is a REAL pain, and makes a real mess. I have added a bunch of 12 oz Libbey Vibe jars to my collection (which also fit into a drawer) to handle bulk spices. Still, I should be able to buy a popular spice in the grocery store and just dump the contents into the Libbey jar without so much fuss. If the Libbey spice jars weer 33% larger, I'd give them 5 stars instead of 4. Two more minor complaints: - As indicated by others, the plastic seals are a cheap addition to an otherwise quality product. I would pay extra for real silicone seals - The sticker on the bottom of each jar is paper, and the glue is very sticky; consequently, every single one that I tried to remove tore - and I had 52 chances to perfect my technique. This is a one-time hassle, but still, it took me about 2 hours to peel, soak, and clean the jars when they first arrived. Overall, after much searching, I can say that these are probably the best spice jars to be had, at least for my needs. With a few improvements, they'd be outstanding, but I can grudgingly live with their shortcomings. I would recommend these jars to others seeking a functional and stylish solution for organizing their spices (and the larger jars for other dry goods).

most are good larger size not air tight
hello all I ordered a bunch in all sizes and just put stuff into them today. I discovered that not all of these are made the same !! 4.5oz = great seal that is air tight, the seal on this is very good 12oz = great seal same design as the 4.5 27oz = This seal is 90% air tight, it seal very good but they left a small area where air/bugs can get in, I think this is so you can accutally remove the lid, witch would other wise have a very strong vaccum trying to get it off, but in doing this it is not air tight. 42oz = the seal is different and I would not call it air tight, where as the ones above have seal the must compress to close the lid, these just simply count on the weight of the lid to seal, and it just a plastic gasket, so these will not seal air tight. I'm trying to fine a silicon ring i can put on these to make them air tight but no luck yet. 62oz = same as 42 UPDATE OCT = got the 27's updated above 3 stars beause why would you not make them all air tight? they look good and are easy to use!! but vary dissapoints the large sizes are not air tight :(

Well done Libbey. Wonderful, high-quality jars, made in the USA
I love these spice jars. I love the feel of the glass, which is not too thin in my opinion; in fact, I thought just the opposite, not only the heft but the high quality of the glass itself. Glass is glass you might think, but not true. I like that they are made in the USA; however when you receive them you will notice that the lids are made in Mexico. Why; I cannot fathom, unless it is a NAFTA issue? Thank you Libbey for supporting American workers. I also purchased the "Blackboard" labels to put on top of the lids. They are sized for this application. You must let them dry completely before putting them on. Together they present a very clean and charming look. There are directions for removing them should you need to change what you put inside them. Further that would make storing your spices in a drawer much easier. I had no issue with removing the labels on the bottom of each jar. Clearly one would wash them before use; I put them in a sink of hottish water, with a splash of the Free & Clear Seventh Generation dishwashing liquid, and let them sit for a bit. The labels were easily removed. The jars rinsed off completely, with no residue or odor. I am definitely purchasing more of the spice jars, as well as, some of the larger ones as soon as I figure out what sizes I need. Pros: All of the above + purchase encourages more USA manufacturing. Cons: That the lids are not made in the USA.

Just very cool & functional spice jars.
I had been searching for the perfect spice/herb jars like forever. I wanted something out of the ordinary. The day I saw these on my fav foodie blog Smitten Kitchen, it was all over. Done. The design is unique and they are glass, so will not transfer odors if you switch spices between jars. They hold a generous amount of herbs and look so darn good on display in the kitchen. The seal is T-I-G-H-T. That's an important feature when you live in SW Florida. Regardless to how clean you are in our state, from time to time little bugs appear in our homes. If you've ever visited a Carribean island (Jamaica & Bahamas for me), you know what I mean. They are stinkin' EVERYWHERE! Suffice it to say, these spice jars are perfect in style and function. I'll be purchasing an additional dozen soon.
