Been using this for over a decade!! Must read.
I've been working in bathroom installations for 20+ years. Using a tape measure likely near 500 times a day means a lot of worn out pants as well as time and hassle getting a tape on a belt. (I don't use pouches except for impact and screws when needed)I have now been using this product for over over a decade and I strongly believe it's the best on the market. I am selfishly writing this review because I want as many people to buy this so the people who make it stay in business so I never have to work without one of these again. It's the best thing since sliced bread. In response to other reviewers....1. Metal plate not fully "clicked" into magnet... I agree that if they beveled both the metal plate and plastic surrounding the magnet would solve this problem. Here's the thing, the problem is actually only temporary, the more you use it the better it gets. Every time you use it, it gets a little better until it gets fully "broken in". It just goes away on it's own. Just listen for the loud little "click" when putting the tape on every time...no problem2. Belt clip coming off your belt?... when removing your tape, use a downward twist motion, problem solved. I can honestly say I've never had this happen to me. I am estimating I have in total removed a tape from this thing 1.2 million times in my lifetime.3. Securing metal plate to the tape. Each tape is different the plate will loosen and maybe even pull the little screw out with use. To solve this, mix a small amount of j b weld or any 2 part epoxy and place a dab under plate before fastening. If you do this the plate will never loosen, it works beautifully!

It’s totally worth the money! Well made strong magnet.
This product works great. I had to dremel the back of my Fat Max tape so it was nice and flat. Also you HAVE TO remove the tape in a downward motion or you wind up pulling the magnetic base loose. My muscle memory keeps me doing this. To fix it until my muscle memory changes. I tapped a hole into the clip to line up with a hole on my bags and attached it with a 1/4 inch bolt. Lol I tried pulling it up immediately after adding the bolt and felt foolish, but at least now I get some feedback before detaching it. I really love being able to put my tape back onto my belt and feel it click into place. It saves wearing things out using the standard clip. If your on the fence I would say buy it. Well made strong magnet strong clip.

Where has this been all my construction life
I am NOTORIOUS for dropping my measuring tape. Standing on the ground, or 15 feet up in a scissor lift, somehow it's going to get knocked off of my frayed, sad looking pocket and hit the deck. NOT ANYMORE! This little gem has kept my tape locked and loaded, ready for the next measurement of inches plus little lines and hairs. You do have to pay attention at first to get it locked in, but after a day or so you'll recognize the click that tells you it's seated correctly. And also, remember to give it a side twist to disengage. Otherwise you'll do as I did for a day, pulling up like normal and pulling the whole thing off of your belt. The clip is a little tight, so it's a bit of a pain to put back on 14 times a day, but you'll dang sure learn after that! Highly recommend this for the daily tape user!

It works, but you need to re-learn how to use it properly -and perhaps modify it a little.
It does work, but it has a few problems out of the box.Let's start out by saying I am a commercial journeyman electrician who wears out a couple of tape measures a year when I am working because I measure something every couple of minutes all day, every day, at work. This is a seriously neat idea that works great once you get the issues ironed out.The first problem is the little metal disk that screws to your tape measure is just barely small enough to "snap" into the recessed opening for the magnet. If the disk does not snap in correctly the tape measure will not be held very securely because there is too much distance between the magnet inside the clip and the metal disk on the tape measure. If you can manage to get it to "snap" in correctly it is very hard to pull it back off, and will subsequently not come off accidentally. It will stay locked together even if you are climbing on ladders, through scaffolding, up and down through manholes, etc.But if it doesn't snap in JUST RIGHT it'll fall off very easily because magnetic attraction falls off very quickly with any distance when the parts are not directly touching. You will feel a really solid CLICK when in snaps into place correctly but sometimes it takes a second or so of wiggling and aligning to get it to lock into place securely. The clearances are too tight and the parts are not beveled properly to help facilitate them mating with the correct alignment. Often if you don't put it up against the magnet perfectly straight it will only half engage the magnet because it is sitting slightly cocked in the opening. We are only talking a a couple hundredths of an inch here, but that is enough to make it much less secure. If any metal filings or magnetic grit has been attracted to the magnet that will be even harder to get it to snap all the way in. Keep the magnet clean. I'm thinking of shaving a little bit of the radius off of the disk so that it will snap in better will sit flat against the magnet better, and maybe beveling it so that the mating action is more self-correcting. I can always buy an extra/replacement disk here on Amazon for a few bucks if this messes up the system somehow. The second issue is that when the disk is seated and snapped in properly the magnet holds the tape measure so securely that the cheap belt clip that holds the magnet part on your belt is not up to the task of securing it to tightly when you go to pull your tape measure off. This is even more of a problem if you are used to pulling UP the tape measure and have trained your muscle memory to use a regular belt clip. Instead of pulling the tape off the magnet you will annoyingly get the whole assembly. I did this approximately 115 times the first morning I tried using this gizmo at work. After lunch I was getting a little bit better and pushing/twisting downward, but I still did it wrong every once in a while popped it off my belt from time to time. I eventually got sick of this and drilled a couple of 1/8" holes into the sides of the plastic base and safety wired the clip to my work tool belt rig. It is NOT coming off my belt any longer, even when it takes a seriously hard pull to get it off my belt and I'm using an upward motion to pull it off like I have done approximately 2.4 million times in my career using a traditional belt clip that needs this motion.I have an Arrsenal padded work belt with padded suspenders as my tool belt rig and the belt clip just barely works on the over-sized work belt. It did go on fully but the clip just isn't tight enough to keep it on when pulling upwards to snap the magnetic attraction and remove the tape from the holder. On a work belt it wasn't hard to safety wire the clip onto the belt semi-permanently but wearing this on a regular belt might be problematic. I just don't think it is going to work for anyone who has trained their arm muscles to remove a tape the regular way with a conventional clip. The belt clip is in desperate need of some sort of locking system to keep it on your belt.Keep these issues in mind when ordering this product. It may need some modifications or some serious retraining of your arm muscles to make this worthwhile. This product needs some re-engineering to make it 5 stars. 1: The makers of this product should redesign the clip to allow it to be secured better onto the belt. It just comes off too easily, both on a work belt or even on a regular trouser belt. 2: The mating surfaces should be beveled to allow the parts to align more naturally so it doesn't take so much effort/concentration to get a good solid lock. Beveling both the opening in the base and the metal disk so that they automatically align would be a HUGE improvement. As it is now it just takes too much concentration to ensure they click in correctly. An extra couple of second every time you put it back onto your belt adds up over the day into minutes of wasted time for a professional who is buying this product to save time/effort in the first place.

Great tool
I've used this tool for over 15 years (I've worn out one and lost two) It's on my work belt every work day. I can use it with one hand, which is the best part. I've also found that when disassembling things with small bolts/screws I can set the base on the table where I'm working and set the screws on it and don't need to worry about them rolling off the table. The biggest problem is remember to put my tape back on my belt. I have noticed that the Magneto used to come with two metal attachments for the tape measure. The last one I received only had one.
