Very nice toaster, it even defrosts!
I would recommend this toaster to anyone. First, the ONLY drawback is it is a bit larger than most (larger "footprint). But it fits very nicely in the corner of a counter. It has easy cleanup, with nice slideout bins under both sides. Toasts nicely and quickly. Even has a defrost setting which is nice (although I rarely use this). The center levers pop the toast up out of the toaster nicely so you don't have to "dig" although the slots are so nice and wide, it's easy to get toast out. I love the bagel setting, FINALLY I don't have to SQUISH my bagels to toast them (or drag out my much larger toaster oven!). Also, I like the wide opening to insert your bread, even when you don't have it on "bagel" setting...the plates just close around the bread once you begin the toasting...very nice, especially when you have curled bread! The temperature setting knobs are great and I love the pusbutton in the middle of each to pop your toast up early if you like. The temperature settings seem to be quite consistent, which I've never found in a regular "older fashioned" 2-slice toaster. It looks very nice and modern on my counter and matches my stainless steel and black appliances beautifully. I used to "hide" my other toaster in the cupboard, but this one deserves a place on the counter. Once you see it in person, and try it, I know you'll like it. Very good quality. And the two SEPARATE operational sides were very well thought out. Sometimes you don't need FOUR slices toasted and sometimes you do! Overall, EXCELLENT, and recommended. It's worth the price, especially if you get free shipping with Amazon!

Perfect Toast and Love The Features
We love our 4 slice toaster which is also wide enough for bagels and other thick pastries. The settings work well, so our toast or English muffin comes out perfect. I love the way I can move it back on the counter and because it's tilted towards you, it's an easy reach to get your item out of the toaster. It also has a lever you can push to make the item move up higher for easier retrieval. Highly recommend!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Good: This toaster works well. It defrosts well. It toasts fairly evenly. I like the feature that allows you to pop the item up further if it is too short to get out easily. I like the button for emergency pop-up. The Bad: This toaster gets really hot. If you want to put it under cupboards be prepared to pull the toaster out from under them to use it--unless you want warped undersides and have a fire extinguisher handy. Also, the slots are not wide enough for the wide types of bread. I tried cutting the edges off, but the toast curled and burned. I tried turning the bread on its side, but It didn't toast the whole piece(this is the main reason I will be returning it). The Ugly: It is really BIG, which is probably why it gets too hot for use under the cupboards. Conclusion: If you have the counter space and use "standard" size bread, I recommend this toaster. If not, don't buy it.

Great toaster, sleek design
This is a great toaster. It boasts modern design touches, the angled front really makes insertion and removal of toast easy and not subject to cabinet heights. The lift levers do a great job of helping to raise up your toast so you don't need to reach into the toaster. These lift levers have also been updated from the previous generation of Avante toasters (which we have); the previous generation you'd have to hold the lever down with one hand and grab your toast with the other. These lift levers lock down, so your toast is kept elevated so you can use both hands to remove toast. The only real drawback is that it says high speed on it, but it isn't that fast. It takes a couple of minutes to produce toast or a toasted bagel. Bear in mind though, that I bought and tested 4 other toasters before choosing this one and each of the other 4 toasters performed even more slowly.

A toaster that makes real toast
It's been a long time since the days way back in the 1940s, when,as a kid of 6, I got to stand next to a toaster waiting for my parent's old time toaster pop up, producing a real, honest to goodness well toasted piece of bread. It only made two slices; but, when it popped, you had toast to your exact specifications, from light brown to flaming black!! Somewhere along the way, the product safety, consumer advocates, or product cheapeners got into the picture; so, toasters became bigger, sexier looking, with four slices and colorful gadjets. The only problem with these new age devices was, they didn't toast the bread before popping up. Sure, if you had all morning to keep pushing the lever down, you could get decent toast on the instalment plan. That is, regular, store bought bread. I happen to be a bread maker who enjoys making hearty, healthy, hard crust loves of dense bread. Most of today's timid toasters don't even phase my bread. At the highest setting, it will take three to four trys before the home made bread gets brown. Finally, I discovered the Avante Deluxe, four slice product. I've been using it every morning for a couple years now, and, it's still making reliable, well toasted bread. Extra thick slices may require a second try, but, this is by far the best unit I've purchased in many years. It's also easy to clean.

Slanted Toaster
The T-fal TT7461002A Avante Deluxe 4-Slice Toaster, Black... Looks great- Makes great toast- Very fast- Very Stylish- Has awesome features- great size- Toast never gets stuck at all ( BECAUSE THE TOAST GOES FLYING OUT EVER TIME UNLESS YOU GET X LARGE BREAD THAT IS DENSE AND HEAVY REAL HEAVY. )I tried a bunch of breads many times, I even turned it around on the counter and put a basket in front to catch the bread that was falling on the floor. But I bought this for my 80 yr old mother, so it was not a good idea. So I returned it. They need to design it so the spring release is slower and not so much force. I say DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU ONLY EAT BAGELS OR WHAT TO PLAY OK KIDS LETS CATCH THE TOAST GAME....

Worth the Bread!
Works great! Great options! I did a lot of research to find the right toaster. I was on the fence on this one due to some reviews. I bought it anyway and was very pleased. I'm not a manual reader, but I did browse though the manual before I toasted anything and I'm glad I did. You have to turn it on high and depress both sides (with nothing in it) for 3 consecutive times (to get the new smell out of it). It did have a strong "new smell" which went away after the 3rd time (like the manual said). It does a great job on toast and bagels. Evenly toasts. The bagels option button is awesome! It only toasts the cut side of the bagel, leaving the outside of the bagel soft. This was a nice surprise. It's worth the bread for this one! Other reviews about the toasting may have been from not doing the steps in the manual before using. We are very happy with ours.

My Sample Extremely Flawed
My last toaster was a Presto with a single very long and wide slot. Cool to the touch. Toasted evenly. Didn't take up much space. Lasted over 25 years. If my sample of this toaster is any guide....perhaps it is not...toasters have regressed, not improved.First what I like. Four slots are handy, and it has a feature that perhapsall toasters have nowadays....ya can't push down the toasting lever if the toaster is not plugged in. (a mistake I made now and then with the Presto). And personally I like the industrial look.A word of caution. It is pretty bulky for a toaster....pay attention to the measurements. Parts of the exterior get hot. No need to touch those parts, but be careful. And as another reviewer mentioned, while the slots are wide they are also very shallow. No deeper than a standard piece of packaged bread. If you have an elongated piece to toast, either store bought or home made, you are going to have to cut it in half. Now that very limited depth would knock it down to 3 starts for me....what sent it to two was the way mine toasts. VERY unevenly, and that is true of all four slots. To the point where for one side of a simple piece of bread to get crisp but untanned the other side gets very brown.I do not know if I just received a bad sample, or if that is some deliberate and popular style of toasting nowadays. But I don't like it.Should have returned it but it arrived at a very busy time and it just didn't seem worth the hassle. May donate it to the Purple Heart fairly soon and look elsewhere.PS just read dozens of amazon reviews for many different brands of toaster....Virtually all of them work fine for some people, very unevenly for others. WHY IN THE WORLD is it so hard to find a good basic, consistently good toaster nowadays??? Since they all work well for some, I can only assume component quality control is horrendously erratic in the industry and within each model.

It's a good item except at times the toast pops right out and onto the floor. So far that only happened once.
