I've used the SleepMate by Marpac for my entire life. My mom was addicted and passed it along in the womb. I've had several of them and was using a decades old museum piece made by Marpac itself. After noticing the disgusting gunk coming out of the holes a few weeks ago, I made the mistake of trying to clean it. The accumulation of blackened junk in there was appalling. Removing it made a huge mess and also ruined it. It was old and the fan would rub something inside at times but always settled down in a minute and just worked. Now, it just scraped. So out it goes. I have an app on my phone as travelling with this is impossible. Good luck finding one without a zillion ads. You're looking for brown noise, not white. It's big and 110V only, rendering it useless abroad. Having one in your luggage is a guarantee it'll get pulled out for secondary screening. But for home, I'd much rather have the real thing. YogaSleep's version is faithful to the original. Slightly different look and design but clean, simple, and sounds exactly the same. These are not complex devices. Just a motor, a fan, and a housing that comes open with four screws. I should clean it every year or so. Their quality control needs work. My first one rattled and no amount of shaking would help. Opening it up and tightening every screw failed. Something was rubbing in the motor. So back it went and Amazon sent another one. This one works fine.

My wife bought this because I'm a such a "fan" of the Dohm Classic white noise machine that I was bringing it into my office to use whenever it wasn't on for our baby. My house has hardwoods and noise carries easily, but the Dohm Classic washes it out with a soothing roar. When I read the reviews about the rattling and high pitched whine the UNO makes, I was worried I wouldn't care for this cheaper model nearly as much. But it turns out the complaints are overblown, at least in my opinion. Sure, it's definitely not as loud as the Classic on high, but we're not talking about a tremendous difference in volume. It still delivers soothing, analog white noise and it's plenty loud enough to drown out the sounds of floorboards creaking and cars driving by that tend to pull my ADHD brain off course so easily. None of Marpac’s models can get as loud as the loudest electronic white noise machines, so if you need to drown out a busy city street, an analog machine probably won’t cut it. To be fair, if I focus on the noise itself, I do notice two distinct sounds. One is the low-pitched roar of forced air and the other is a quieter, higher-pitched whirr that I assume is the fan motor. The thing is, I don't sit there and savor the sound of the Dohm UNO like a fine wine. Whether it's the Classic or the UNO, real analog white noise is something you don't even notice after a few minutes (unlike digital samples, which quickly become annoying after you start recognizing the loop pattern). I guess some people like to focus on the sound, and if that's how you use white noise, then the Dohm Classic does have a slightly quieter motor and if you listen closely you can tell the difference. If the quiet whirr ever starts to bother me, I’ll probably just open it up and spray it with some silicone. The only reason I’d advise against getting this model is if you like to fine tune the tone of your white noise. The Classic has two ways to change the tone, while the UNO combines them into one rotating piece that controls both tone and volume. Personally, I always leave my Classic set all the way open and never change it, which I imagine is what most people do, but if you need not one but TWO ways to alter the tone, then best to stick with the Classic. One other plus is that the UNO has a better design than the Classic. It feels more modern and looks a lot like their confusingly named Dohm model, which is not the same as the Dohm Classic (they’re basically the same, but the Dohm has the updated design). Marpac makes the best white noise machines, and it shouldn’t be this hard to pick one. It doesn’t help that they’ve started using the Yogasleep name on their products since they bought that company. Don’t get confused; Marpac is still the manufacturer for all the Dohm machines. They’ve given us a surfeit of choices, but the analog machines are mostly so similar, you just have to choose which “trim” level you want. Personally, I’d recommend saving $10-$15 and getting the UNO and enjoying the peace and calm of a less distracting environment.

I bought this before and like another rater said, it worked great. Until I took it with me to Spain (the other rater said the same, scroll through all the ratings) and suddenly it started smelling like it was on fire. Never had a problem with it before and traveled to other countries that use the same outlets like us in the US, like in Central America. I take it to Europe and it automatically stopped working. I thought it was about to catch fire it smelled so bad of smoke. Ended up buying a second one. This one is making the rattling noise others are talking about so I’ll just exchange it but over all it’s been 5 stars. My other one never made a rattling noise.

This is the third sound machine I purchased. We're usung a DOHM Classic unit in pur bedroom, and I bought a Classic for my boss too. One of the Classic units also arrived looking damaged, but I was able to snap it back into place. I purchased this Uno unit for the guest room, but it arrived with a 2-inch crack in the housing, just to the left of the power switch, which didn't look very safe to me, so I requested a replacement for it from Amazon. These are amazing little machines, but I think DOHM needs to do a better job with its packaging to cushion the units inside their boxes from being jostled and tossed around in shipping, warehouses and delivery trucks. Overall though, love them! We're sleeping so much better.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live inside a malfunctioning TV from the 90s, then boy, do I have the product for you! This sound machine offers one thing and one thing only: white noise. That's it. Just pure, unfiltered static. It’s like putting your head inside a radio station that can't find a signal, but apparently, that's what my kid needs to drift off to dreamland. The sound itself is hard to describe. It’s kind of like a vacuum cleaner that's in the next room… or maybe a swarm of bees that got trapped in your attic but are too far away to be a real problem. Either way, it works. My kid conks out faster than I can say, "Is this seriously all it does?" At first, I was skeptical. "Won't this drive us crazy?" I asked, as the machine roared to life like a spaceship about to take off. But then something magical happened: the crying stopped. The tossing and turning ceased. My child entered a coma-like state of sleep, and for the first time in weeks, I had... peace. Sure, now my house sounds like an industrial fan factory, but I’ll take that over a screaming toddler any day. Plus, it drowns out everything else: barking dogs, noisy neighbors, even my own thoughts. It’s a glorious mental reset button in sound form. In conclusion, if you like your sleep to be accompanied by the sweet, constant hum of existential nothingness, this white noise machine is your new best friend. Just don't expect to hear anything else. Ever.

The machine itself works good, and sounds good, but the power button, the on off button is probably the cheapest piece of crap I’ve ever experienced in my life. Be very careful with the on off switch. Treat it like a newborn baby because it breaks and falls apart very very easily, and you’ll have to find all the little pieces and put it back together like a puzzle and now it’s even more delicate.

I worked in an office with a customer support area in the next section. They had a series of these white noise machines, and I found them to be incredibly effective in smothering out noise, as well as providing a soothing background sound that allowed me to work effectively. Fast-forward to today. My kids were running box fans in the cold winter house just for the background noise. I bought two Yogasleep Dohm UNO White Noise Machines, and was so impressed I immediately bought a third. We had a "white noise" machine when the kids were babies, but it was a speaker with bad looping sounds of waves, wind, whales, thunderstorms, etc. Once you heard the looping noises you couldn't unhear them, and they drove you nuts. This is not like that at all. It is real fan noise from an actual fan running inside of a tough plastic cup. It is so soothing it almost puts you to sleep immediately.

Es el segundo que compro. El primero duró unos meses y de repente dejó de funcionar. Este segundo me duró solo 14 días… No puede ser tan mala calidad. No lo vuelvo a comprar…😡

Steady white noise, perfect.

This is an essential item! It's a super simple device that does what you need it to do: make white noise. Because it's a physical motor, the pitch and volume of the device is all done by twisting the top of the machine. Figure out your preferred volume (quiet or loud) and pitch, and then just use the on/off switch every night. This has been great because it muffles noises outside (people yelling, cars honking etc) and inside (other people breathing).

Me fascina mis maquinitas de white noise. Éstas en específico me gustan más porque tiene motor dentro de la unidad. Lo que hace que se escuche natural el sonido. He intentado usar mi celular o bocina pero no se escucha igual. Para mi fue una salvación porque ya no levanto a mi pareja cuando voy al baño en la noche. De hecho nos lo hemos llevamos de viaje varias veces y nos ha ayudado mucho en no escuchar a los vecinos del cuarto de hotel o los sonidos de la calle (especialmente en CDMX). Hay una versión más sencilla que solamente tiene una velocidad. Este me gusta más porque tiene dos velocidades y se puede regular lo agudo o grave del sonido. Ampliamente recomendado, ya le regalé a mis suegros y mis papás, me aman más por este aparatito jajaja.
