... face it - the design of this heater is uber sexy and you're paying for it - but you ...
Let's face it - the design of this heater is uber sexy and you're paying for it - but you are also paying for a quality product that does just what it says it will do. The major advantage is a design which provides excellent heat without the fear of setting everything around your space heater on fire. It is also a unit that can be touched accidentally and will not see you (or your children or pets) walking away with scorched fingers, paws or fur. The remote is intuitive and easy to use and the ability to control the dynamics of the airflow (focused narrow output or wide spread of air) is clever and very practical. I live in an older brick building with an open floor plan, old windows and less than optimal insulation. My home is heated by water source heat pumps (essentially a fancy name for an in-ceiling air conditioner that uses the compression of refrigerant to provide heat as well as cooling). These units are efficient and heat steadily, but not near at the rate of other heating devices such as a gas forced hot air furnace or baseboard radiant heating. I use the Dyson to fill in the gaps as my heat pumps bring the air mass of the house up to temp. Because the unit can tilt its head up or down (this is a position set manually), you can wash air across a cold floor or push air upward if need be. For maximum effect, set the fan to oscillate with a wide spread of the air stream...you will feel the ambient temperature of your room increase rapidly. The unit can be set for a certain room temperature (obviously this works best in an enclosed room vs. an open space) and will cycle on and off as the temperature is achieved. The fan is relatively quiet, even at high speed. I've read complaints about fan noise but I suspect this is coming from some very PICKY people...this is among the quietest fans or space heaters I've ever come across. The whole thing is pretty much set it and forget it and within no time it does exactly what it sets out to do.

Heater surprisingly lives up to the hype!
This heater is crazy expensive. It is 10x more expensive than my other space heater at home. So is it 10x better? I have been using this for a few weeks and my first impression is....yes! I am so surprised. The cheap heater I have at home tends to blow heat that is too hot. I keep it close by because it's freezing in the mornings, and within 5 minutes I have to face it the other way or else turn it off, and then of course, it gets too cold, so I have to reach over and turn it back on, over and over again. The dyson somehow mysteriously solves this problem. I place it right next to my feetI and it just feels pleasantly warm all the time. It does not get too hot. It turns off when it reaches the preset temperature, and keeps the room just right. It is so comfortable and my legs, directly in front of the heater, do not get all dry and itchy like they do with the cheap heater. The remote is useful and it sticks by magnet to the top of the heater when not in use, so you won't lose it. I am so pleasantly surprised. This thing is a winner! Edit: I actually do have one complaint...the on switch is a tiny red light at the base of the heater that is hard to see. Since the heater stops blowing when it reaches the preset temperature, if it is not currently blowing, sometimes I do not notice it is still on when I walk away. I have accidentally left it on all day. When I came back into the room, the room was pleasantly warm, just right, not too hot, and nothing was burning or overheating, which is GOOD. But I would have preferred to save energy (and peace of mind) and turned it off when I was done with it. So you just to remember that quiet thing is still on and turn it off yourself, knowing that is is sometimes hard to see that it is still on.

Best space heater money can buy!
I have three of these and about to purchase one more. Keep one in my office at work since they turn the heat off at 5 pm and weekends. Will heat my office up from 62 degrees to 72 degrees in about 15 minutes. I like the swivel motion since this spreads the warm area throughout the room. Best results are when the heater is pointed away from you, not directly on you. It even shuts off when the desired temperature is reached and turns on again when it drops. The remote is wonderful since you can set the machine anywhere in a room and control it from where you are sitting. The remote can be stored by attaching to the top of the machine (magnet) but in most rooms I keep the remote in my desk drawer or on a bed stand. It is very quiet. Made well. One of them has gone through three winters and in the summer it is a great way to afford turning on the A/C since a cool breeze can be delivered instead of heat. What can I say other than it is the best fan or heater I have ever owned. Dyson makes quality products. Sure they are expensive but wait for sales when they will be $100 or more off the standard price either here or Best Buy. You will not be disappointed. Rate: A+

Typical Dyson...Clever, Nice to Use and Expensive
This is a review for the Dyson AM09 Fan Heater. I'd give it 5 stars if it was around a hundred bucks :). Other than the price, it works well in my office at work. Sometimes I use the heater, sometimes the fan. Pros: 1) The heater thermostat works well and does not have an excessively large differential. Most cheap heaters get way too hot before they turn off and wait until it is way too cold to turn back on, making it an uncomfortable experience. This one is good in that way. 2) It has a setting to spread the air distribution out into a wide pattern, making it feel like a warm breeze instead of a stream of hot air. This makes it more comfortable to have blowing on you. 3) It has other tricks like tilting and oscillating and a timer that may be useful at some later date. 4) It has a remote so you don't have to go over to it to change the setting. 5) Of course, it is safer for kids, and that may be the best reason of all to buy it. No turning blades and it never gets burning hot to the touch. Cons: 1) Did I say that I paid $350.00 for it ( I think it was on sale!)? 2) It may heat up a room over time but the fan function is not particularly strong. It won't push as much air as a regular box fan. 3) On high the fan is pretty loud, especially compared to our 16" oscillating blade fan, or a cheap box fan. Unless you are sitting next to it, you would want it on pretty high. 4) It has a remote that you MUST USE. If you lose the remote, you can't use it. I would say if you want a small heater that is nicer to use in a small room, this one is good and has other benefits. If you just want a fan, you can get a much cheaper and quieter one.

Heats well, quiet, looks nice
I have a basement (roughly 1100 sqft) that gets about 15 degrees cooler than the main floor in between summer and winter when the HVAC isn't running as much. I was worried that this would basically be a warm fan, but that's just the immediate effect after turning it on. Given maybe a n hour (and especially after a few hours) the heater kicks into a lower gear and my basement is cozy. The first time I used it, I actually turned the heat to 78 thinking I should make it kick out more heat, but by that afternoon the basement was warmer than the main floor, so I set it to the same temperature as the main floor and it's quite comfortable. The basement does use 4x6s in the walls as is fairly common now for extra insulation, so I doubt you'd get the same effect in a poorly insulated basement, or even in a garage in the winter when it gets to below freezing and the door opens multiple times a day. However it works perfectly for my needs. Additionally, the heat it pumps out is rather comfortable, the fan does not blow very hard (I mostly don't feel it) and it doesn't dry out the air. The fan itself is rather quiet, you can hear it but it shouldn't bother you. It's quite safe for children, my 2yo is obsessed with it so I made sure it didn't get too hot, (You should do the same before you let your kids or pets near it). Finally, it is rather attractive. I was a bit hesitant on other models of heaters because they looked like something you'd see in a retro 1970s home or a college kids dorm, but I rather like the look of this one especially for the effect.

Dyson is the best hands down!
I gotta say I love this dyson fan/heater! I really didn't want to spend 500 on such a small fan so after checking out all the open box and refurbished models I decided that 250 for a open box wad plenty reasonable. I had ordered a red one at first but it came damaged and broken from shipping but also had alittle too much wear marks on it from use for my liking. Either way it had to be sent back due to a piece missing from the plastic upper section. After my first experience I was praying that the second would be described better and not have any wear or use damage.. my package arrived and it was reboxed and didn't have any of the initial box or paperwork but all the parts where there along with the remote. Fortunately its pretty self explanatory so it was up and running in a minute.... well worth the open box price in fact now knowing how it works I'd pay full price! We have a huge bedroom 20ร40 and we usually keep the heat off in the room. With this on 66 setting it easily heats the room to that temp and shuts off when the desired temp is reached. I would say it turns on once or twice an hour and runs for about 10 or so min and it's right back to temp again.... it's unbelievable the heat it puts out And how far it can be felt away from the fan! If you don't like to feel it blowing on you use the setting that spreads the air way out and u won't even know it's on other than the warmth in the room! Best part is the tilt back and forth and the rotation between the two threads not a spot you can't reach... not to mention everyone wants to talk about it ,inspect it , and wonder how it's doing what it does.... trust me me when I say if you got the cash and need a space heater and a fan in summer buy it!!! You'll love it if for some reason you don't box it up send it back and i'll buy it open box!! ๐ i'm a dyson addict.... Dyson hair dryer, dyson v8 animal cordless vacuum, dyson animal ball corded vacuum, and now dyson am09 heater/fan

Great product but incredibly disappointed with customer service.
Purchased this product a few months ago, and the fan works well both in fan and heater mode. It is relatively quiet and can very effectively heat a whole room. The fan comes with a small remote that controls almost all of the functions of the fan, and we ran into a serious issue when we lost that remote. Without the remote, you can only control very basic functions of the fan. We called Dyson support because you cannot purchase a replacement remote anywhere online, and initially had a 30 minute wait before we could speak to a person. We went through the process of ordering 2 replacement remotes (which cost $20 each, plus $10 shipping), and waited for them to arrive. After sending a follow up email about a week later and never receiving a response, I called Dyson support again and waited 45 minutes on hold, finally to find out that the order had never been processed and we needed to restart the process. The representative would not offer expedited shipping, so we have to wait another 10 days to receive the remotes. So we currently have a nearly $350 fan that functions equally as well as a $10. Incredibly poor design that almost all of the functions are unavailable without the remote, especially when Dyson has atrocious customer service. Will most likely never purchase a Dyson product again.

An outstandingly well designed product, made with high quality materials, that offers exceptional performance!
This unit uses the industry standard 1500 watts but vastly outperforms the competitors. Its well engineered and actually looks decorative in our living room. The remote is very easy to use and secures to the unit nicely. We only paid $337 on Amazon. We've used it to supplement the electric baseboard in our 23ft x 12ft living room when it's really cold outside. On days that it's above 30 degrees outside, we use the Dyson instead of the baseboard. This unit heats the room to whatever temperature you set it at very quickly. Excellent customer service. I called Dyson to ask about using an extension cord. The manufactuer advises against it , mostly because some people will use a cord rated too low to safely handle 1500 watts which of course can lead to wire overload and as well as risk of fire. Most other manufactuers also do not recommend using an extension cord but some say it's ok if the cord is at least 14 gauge and rated to handle a minimum of 1875 watts. I have been using a heavy duty appliance 14 gauge cord on a 1500 watt electric fireplace for many years and the wire doesn't even come close to becoming hot. I also use one with this Dyson and have not noticed any increase in cord temperature. Bottom line...this product is of high qualtiy but at a premium price.
