You don't know what's going on in the hero's mind aside from small bits of information the character himself provides though curt dialogue. The hero is without a doubt the star of the show but the end still leaves you curious as to what really makes him work.I enjoyed reading the volume, as of writing the anime has just started and I thought it was funny enough to read at least the first volume while I wait for more episodes. The idea of an overpowered main character with "Cheat" level abilities is a very worn path and each story has to add something to stand out among their peers. As the title suggests, this hero is cautious to an absurd degree, As someone who grinds in various RPGs until I can sail through the final boss I'll admit it speaks to me just a little. Every hero needs a journey and change though. While the hero might have changed with the events of this novel just a tiny bit, it could easily just be the Goddess finally seeing what was always there.As someone who reads light novels almost exclusively compared to other literature I give this a high recommendation. While overpowered main characters make for less than appealing stakes sometimes, there is a certain charm to the main character as the perpetual straight man to all the absurdity this world has to offer. I look forward to reading, and watching, his continuing adventures. ### ⭐⭐ Where funny is ‘strange’, not ‘humorous’ *by T***R on Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2019* There are times where people do serious things and it makes sense. There are also times where people do serious things to silly levels and it’s funny. Then there are times where people go above and beyond silly levels... and it’s hilarious. This one takes it a step further, where it just falls flat.For me this one falls flat. It’s just not funny. Except in that not-ha-ha kind of funny, where the hero is sooooo cautious about avoiding problems, he’s actively courting creating problems, and is somehow oblivious to this.I’ll be honest, I didn’t finish reading the work. I couldn’t. The Hero was just that unlikeable for me. It read to me as if the hero is a force of nature that will always work toward the protagonist’s goals, but in undesired ways that deliberately annoy the protagonist... and I have trouble reading works where characters are clearly plot elements, not people.
