Worth a Try if Your Solar Fountain Has Broken
It does exactly what I need it to do. It serves as a small birdbath pump; doesnโt need to run at night; no batteries required; keeps the water moving during the day. Water movement is proportional to amount of sunlight on solar panel; the more sunlight on the panel, the more the water will pump. Simple. No sun - no water will pump. The accessories allow you to choose from a bubbler to a spray-type fountain. Options are cool. Bottom line; these donโt last forever but with regular maintenance, they can last a couple of years and if you already love your current solar birdbath/fountain but the pump has given up the ghost, this can be a viable option with a little imagination.

A Step in the Right Direction
The problem with all-in-one solar fountains is that they must be in nearly full sun to operate but full sun also encourages rapid algae growth. That is not too big an issue in a large pond, but it is definitely a problem in a birdbath. I found myself disassembling the pump for cleaning 2-3 times weekly as well as scrubbing the birdbath at least once every two weeks. When I purchased this kit, my hope was that with panel and pump separated, the cleaning issue would be mitigated. That has largely been the case. My birdbath is an old, almost antique, concrete shallow bowl resting on top of a separate hollow concrete pedestal. The finish was mostly gone already when it was purchased many years ago. The rough surface proved to be a great attachment medium for algae. It was also initially too shallow to fully submerse this pump. I tried to fix both problems with an angle grinder. I fixed the depth, but the surface needs a proper sealer. I have so far not been eager to do that. The next problem was where to locate the birdbath and solar panel. I moved the birdbath to a part of the backyard that is shaded most of the day and looked to find a place for the panel that was sunny most of the day. I ended up making a mount for the panel which I then attached to the pole for a weather station. The panel produces enough power to run the pump very well in full sun. But a quite small amount of shade effectively stops it. I found that if any of the spray heads are used, the pump can drain the birdbath so low that it can no longer spray, making it necessary to top off the water level two or three times a day. I ended up using just the straight tube with no spray head. That way I just top off in the morning and it's good for a day. I initially used an iron ring on top of pump to keep it spraying vertically. This was necessary because the electrical cord, having been wrapped up for shipping retained enough bend to prevent the very light weight pump from staying level on the bottom. After a week or so, that ceased to be a problem and i removed the weight. In that time, it had already begun rusting quite a bit. Now with a somewhat smoother surface and a whole lot less sun on the birdbath, it only needs scrubbing about once in three weeks. Also, it is rarely necessary to disassemble the pump for cleaning. Just clean the foam filter daily. The birds took a few weeks to find the bath in it's new location and think it still gets less use than before the move. I hope that improves eventually.

Neat little pump
I got this pump to make a small fountain for birds to enjoy. It works very well, as long as the sun is out. The directions state very clearly that it will only work as long as the panel is in direct sun, and this is very true. If a cloud passes over the water will stop pumping. For the price, this is a neat little pump, and will do what is expected of it.

Attracts animals!
Love these for large 'bird' baths in the garden. Great pressure.

Temperamental
Worked great, but solar panel had to be facing sun at all times to work. Disappointed when sun rotates and pump stops working.

Great little pump!
Bought May 10th 2020 and this cheap thing STILL WORKS GREAT! It even outlasted a much nicer one I bought after this one, which contains an internal battery, which died and has a larger solar panel. The solar panel on this one, after almost 5 years in the Sun, looks beat up but, it still works perfectly. Even when not in full Sun, it tries to start up. I know some have issues with this model but, not me, this one is great. I see it went up four dollars since 2020 but, it is a fantastic product.

Worked great, easy to install.

Works great!
Easy to set up. Long skinny piece does not fit into pump, completely ignore it! Works with the attachments connected to the pump directly. Full sun gets a good foot of water height.

Great fountain.
For the price it really works well. When the panel is in full sun it works great. Didn't use any suction cup, ours lays in the birdbath. Completely satisfied.๐

Not able to deliver 1/10th of stated lift
Solar panel worked fine, but pump stated to be able to lift 100cm, but my fountain is only 45cm high and couldn't even put out any water at this height.

Lots of oomph when it's sunny, not terrrible when it's cloudy
I looked at a LOT of reviews before purchasing a trickler and I'm happy I settled on this one for my mini pond. Since the solar panel is out of the pond, you can position it so it best reaches the sun. I've had it for a whole summer running consistently, and can say that it's lasted well and is in great shape. It gets bunged up with algae pretty quickly, but if you run your hand over it once every week or so you're good. In full sun this can easily empty a pond in an hour if you have it pointing in the wrong direction, but it gives you a great steady trickle if you seat it deep enough. It doesn't work that well when it's cloudy or the panel is pointed away from the sun, but I don't really mind. I usually tilt it in a different direction once a day if I want to keep the trickle strong. If this is a pain for you, maybe consider something with a battery or corded power. I just like having the water move around for a while every day without worrying about batteries. ~ Update Dec 2025: Just wanted to note that as far as longevity goes, this pump is lasting! I didn't expect more than a summer's use, but I've taken it out of the pond for two winters and it keeps on going. Definitely recommend!
