A long overlooked decadent masterpiece
Great translation and presentation. Much needed new translation of a long overlooked decadent classic.PS, a note for the sloppy editors at the U of Minnesota press: According to the back cover's book description, this book published in 1874 greatly influenced Baudelaire (who, of course, died in 1867). Words fail. Not surprised at such blatantly obvious editorial sloppiness these days, though. Par for the course, even from a university press.

Overall, a great read for those who enjoy late-19th century writing and the risqué/Gothic.The only reason I could not fully get into this collection is because of the author's sexism - yes, I understand he was writing from a different time period, but it still made it difficult for me personally to read and seemed to play a much more central and apparent role than in other writings from this time period.
