There are 48 packets in the bag

Do these only work if you seal them in with the clothes in an air tight container or can they be used loose in a drawer?

They work both ways! They work best in an airtight container, but I also put them loosely in my drawers. I’ve been using them for years and have never had a problem. I highly recommend them!

Less often than once per year. Thinking back i have skipped a year in between orders. More than once.

I actually haven't needed to open the package as yet, but it looks like quite a number of small oblong packets approx. 3"x 1"; maybe 50-100?
