Great antivirus software, and the best part is that it was much less expensive than subscriptions. Once you purchase and add it to your computer, then you can cancel the subscription, and it will still work for one year without auto renewing. I do this yearly and pay $9.99 to $14.99 for 3 to 5 devices depending on the current deals.

After installing and trying this out, it takes over your computer and sends you massive requests to buy add-ons, many of which should have been included. It does not allow you to control popup windows and does background functions without asking often resulting in making your computer run very slow or even freeze. You cannot make changes in the settings unless you go online and fill out a form to even find out how to make changes. It frequently displays popup windows that are force you to click to close else it will display on top of any window for a long period before closing. The settings icon with this product does not give you any options to stop notifications even though searches revealed that it should. What it does do is to display icons to upgrade. Support was useless and you can only chat with a computer generated tech which asks you to select from lists to describe your issue, which in my case was to stop notifications, however none of the options were even remotely related, so I had to choose an unrelated option knowing that if I did and it could not help after describing what the real issue was, it would allow you to chat with a real tech and prior to that you have to describe what the issue was, which I did, but when the support person answered the first thing he asks me was to describe what the problem was. Wow, I told him to read what I had already described. I spent about 2 hours chatting with him as there were long delays before he would reply to me and often had to repeat what was already described. All I wanted to do was to stop the annoying notifications and he wanted to take control of my computer which was a Big NO for me. It was difficult to get him to answer direct questions and often his directions did not make any sense such as he asked me to click on % on the bottom right of my screen, but there was no % and after describing my screen to him he said that the % was an up arrow! This kind of thing went on for many minutes and finally had to terminate the chat. This was one of the worst product support interactions I have ever had and the Norton 360 program is a scam to get you to buy several add-ons at $29 to $39 each for a year subscription. Norton used to be a great product, but I recommend that you stay away from it. It is junk. This program is awful. Do not buy it. Added: 04-23-2022 I emphasize what was said before and want to disclose other issues that you should be made aware. Norton disables the close "X" on popup windows which will stay open for several seconds even though you click to close it. It will perform updates and background operations without any notification to you and it will take full control over any other operation, including while you are online, example I often have had to wait several minutes when starting a program before Norton finishes when it should only take a few seconds and I have an abundance of memory and high powered game computer. I have missed several auction opportunities because Norton takes control and does a background download and/or scans files. It will not give you any opportunity to stop it or give any notice. Further, even if you try to cancel any Norton operation, if say you are wanting to bid on an auction or run a game, using the task Manager, it will not allow you to cancel the operation even if you are the administrator. This is a monster program and highly recommend that you do not purchase it.

Norton's a great product, consistently rated at or close to the top for malware protection. I've used it for many years and never had a problem. A large part of this is observing best practice/common sense things like not clicking on sketchy links in spam texts and emails, avoiding sketchy sites and using critical thinking. I also use Firefox with the uBlock Origin, NoScript and Privacy badger plug-ins which helps. A lot. An antivirus product alone won't protect you from carelessness. Now the annoying stuff: For a long time, auto-renewal has been an issue. For example, when renewing directly from Norton or plugging in a new key purchased from Amazon for example, TURN OFF AUTO RENEWAL IMMEDIATELY after changing keys or doing a clean install. Typically if not always, it turns on by default. When I checked this morning in Norton's site, the renewal cost was ~$29.00 for one year. Next year it would have been ~$124.00 (!) for one year when it auto-renewed. Technically this isn't a scam given that they spell this out but it's super shady and is most likely targeting the vulnerable and those who aren't paying attention. Shame on you Norton. AI's s incorporated into the product and may help with fending off some types of attacks. Virtually impossible to know what else it's up to, the extent of it's data mining of our devices, what happens to that data after it's swept up into ravenous AI data centers, used however governments and tech bros want . Virtually no oversight currently. There are quite a few other add-ons and features which may or may not be value added for everyone. A software updater and a vpn for example. Most are up-sells. Pop-ups seem to be slightly less of an issue than they were a couple years ago but you'll still get them. Best to log-in to your Norton account, run through the various settings before settling in and letting Norton do it's thing. Before renewing, I'd recommend looking at alternatives to Norton. Things change rapidly in this world and now with AI initiatives around the world, the battleground has become a lot hotter. Best to investigate before committing to a year of service. AV-Comparitives is my go-to before renewing. Good starting point when trying to decide which product will best serve your needs. Focus on the virus detection rate first when reading reviews in other sites. In some reviews from other publications, add-ons seem to influence ratings at the expense of the most important aspect - malware detection. Avoid anything with foreign ownership before you fully understand their history. So, excellent antivirus product. If not for the auto-renewal scheme (see, I didn't say *scam*), I'd give it 5 stars. I wonder how many elderly and vulnerable people have fallen prey to this? I'm particularly sensitive to this given that a 91yr old relative recently fell victim to a different but morally consistent situation resulting in her checking account being emptied. Come on Norton, malware protection software is all about trust. Your auto-renewal scheme degrades that trust, calls into question what else you might be doing.

For current Norton subscribers or as most who have bought here know, never pay for Norton's ridiculous subscription auto renewal price. Anytime a new subscription is added always immediately cancel the auto renewal on your account/subscriptions. Also delete your credit card info from billing. I currently had one day left on my current subscription, Norton 360 deluxe 5 devices. I originally paid $34.99. Norton's subscription renewal price was $119.99, LOL. Off Amazon I purchased another Norton 360, this time 3 devices for $19.99 instead. The redemption link from Amazon showed up in my email immediately. After several minutes it also showed up in my Software Library. Before downloading its important to get on your existing Norton account and re add your billing credit card info. Norton will require this before the new subscription is added. I had no problems with the new subscription download or install. Also I did this with my prior subscription still current, 1 day remaining. The product subscription downloaded quickly and showed on my Norton account. Also the Norton interface on my desktop now also showed a new entire year remaining. I did a Live Update to download any new current updates and I was set for another year. The only thing remaining was to go back to my Norton account and cancel the auto renewal. Norton makes you jump through several hoops to do it. Also Norton makes it seem as though you are cancelling your subscription. You are not, you are cancelling the auto renewal only. I also delete my credit card info, adding it next year just before I'm ready to add a new subscription. Buying a new subscription through Amazon worked great and will save you a lot of money over Norton's offered auto renewal price.

20$ for a year is a good deal.

Software itself is good. It adds a nice layer of comfort having the protection in place with browser protection and antivirus scan etc. at this price. Major issue with VPN is that it does cause significant enough network slowdown to the point where simple browsing becomes very difficult to navigate websites. I at times just have to turn it off to get anything to be functional, youtube will just stop working. Also the incessant invasive messages about all the different "upgrades" becomes very distracting, it would be nice to have a consolidated page to review what else is offered rather then be always suggested different upgrades which cost about 50 each on top of the current subscription plan, it is borderline predatory. There's the "cleanup" package, then there's the "antitrack" package - which seem to both amount to another $50 each a year (at a discount at that), there's also the premium package of being able to track yourself online and see where you're listed and then they can delete you from being found which is like another $100/yr I believe. It makes you think the 360 package is pretty bare bones if you're missing out on that much. I will not be renewing. It would be nice to have a program that works and is happy with itself in that, not always trying to upsell you. I had McAfee before and was nowhere as near as annoying as this.
