Not perfect, but alright!
A very nice book with a somewhat unique setting. Since I read a significant amount of romances I appreciate novel ideas (or at least attempts to do something different). The environmental aspect of the book was a nice angle.I am also glad that the author did not try to preach about her agenda in the book. While it advocates environmental activism, it also accepts that some people are just not able to give their everything in regards to said activism. MacGregor manages to dodge what some authors don't and doesn't make her readers feel bad about not being as engaged as one of the main characters when it comes to the environment.I would have liked to see a bit more hesistancy on the part of our main characters when it came to their relationship. While there certainly is drama (what self-respecting lesbian romance doesn't have it?) it did not feel urgent to me. The differences between Cathryn and Stacie are made out to be huge (and they are!) and I would've liked to see them have to really work on that part of their relationship. In the end the solution seemed too easy. While I certainly think that they fit together in the end the changes necessary for that happened while they already were in a relationship. I thought that was weird since Stacie is very aware of her convictions and the relationship with Cathryn did not fit into her worldview. I think I would have been more convinced if Cathryn had to think about the actions of Nations Oil and work on herself before they gave a relationship a shot. All this sounds very negative, but it is relatively easy to ignore or to accept (maybe I'm just a nitpicker). What bothered me more was how naive Cathryn seemed. She is in a very high position in her company, poised to become VP even. And still she doesn't know anything about the shady happenings going on? I'm going to put a lightSPOILERhere to make you understand what I am talking about:While it is said in the book that companies hide specific (darker) happenings from even their own people to be able to deny them and not be caught lying, it just didn't make sense to me. Not knowing about something doesn't make it less true. When the truth about the from the oil spill affected animals came out it still was a scandal and not made better by Cathryn being able to say: "Well, I didn't know the truth!". Also leaving someone you want to make VP out of the loop was hard to believe for me. Plus in many many cases Cathryn seemed geniunely surprised by what her superiors did and how far they were willing to go. Really? She's been working in the company for 22 years and I'm supposed to believe she still sees here bosses as nice human beings that wouldn't hurt a fly on purpose? Sorry, seems a bit unbelievable.SPOILER END.Phew, got pretty long there. All in all the book isn't bad. I felt that there were inconsistencies with Cathryns character in regards to her job and how she perceives her bosses and co-workers, but the topic is fresh and interesting and the romance (while it does have problems as I described) is believable. Your money won't be wasted on the book, but I think there are better ones out there.

Top 5 KG MacGregor
Vivid characters, but even more than these characters was the plot, the story, the dialogue, every chapter was riveting, I gobbled this up like bowl of popcorn at a movie theatre. If you haven't read this author before you can start here with complete pleasure. The twists and turns and utterly believable surprises make this novel a complete delight. The author is a genius, I say this because making me change my mind about Cathryn Mack, who for 20 years has been a tool for a bunch of corporate creeps, is a complete professional. Stacie Pilardi had me at hello, she is passionate without being a blind know it all. The chemistry between Cathryn and Stacie was completely believable, I don't know how she did it but it worked! I love this author's humor 'Minnesotaโs pristine Lake Bunyan' I don't know why but everytime I read this name I laughed.

Good Story
This was a good story. Although, I donโt know if I want to say that it was a feel good story because there are many instances where the reader wants to commit violence to some of the โbad guysโ in this story. The reader gets a crash course into the evil oil industry and their involvement in polluting our world. I have to admit that sometimes when we pick up a book or sit in front of the TV to watch a movie, usually it's to immerse ourselves and leave behind all the unpleasant things happening around us and around the world. I enjoy when the author writes about two beautiful brave women coming together and doing their best to leave the world a better place for future generations. I also compliment an author that opens the bedroom door to allow the reader to connect with the beautiful characters.

An engaging corporate vs activism more than a love story
โShe hadnโt been drawn to anyone this way in a very long time, and would never have risked so much just for sex.โ โThe desire for something this special was overpowering, so much that she was willing to ignore the consequences.โ+ โข + โข + โข +A successful political drama & entertaining book thanks to its interesting characters & riveting plot. Its a very relevant, yet rarely revealed, peak behind the curtains at the managings & maneuverings of grassroots activism & corporate politickingโฆ & there's a romantic storyline in there too.

It made me want to do more, be more, help more
When a book actually makes you want to do something beyond the pages, I think that is a sign of an excellent story. I believe KG MacGregor did that with Anyone But You through the characters and the passion they showed to what they were doing and how it impacted everyone. I've enjoyed many of MacGregor's work before but this one in particular struck something. It may not be the intended purpose of the book, but I feel like I came away stronger in my knowledge of social justice regarding big companies, oil in the US and ways I need to be thinking if I want to preserve the way I live. All of this done through excellent character development, well written storyline, and a perfect amount of action/suspense.

WHY "ANYONE BUT YOU?"
I loved this novel. The characters were well-written and people I would love to know. I must be honest here and say I have several of KG MacGregor's novels but have not read that many of them but this novel will change that. I enjoyed the story line and learned somethings I did not know. There is a romance that started in a different way than girl meets girl and falls into bed. We have a battle between an oil company and environmentalists. You really need to read this novel to see how it all plays out. Very entertaining and enjoyable. By the way I do not give out very many five stars.

The standard that is McGregor - LOVE this book
Brilliant story, interesting angle to it, exiting pace and adventurous twists. I really loved this book and it reminded me of how much I truly love this author. I went on a little adventure of my own and checked out other writers out there but the standard is still here with McGregor. It shocked me how much better this book was. Its not just the humour or romance scenes but the depth in the story and the research that must go into each story. This story covered the controversy over the destruction of the environment over an oil spill that destroys a local lake. It follows two women who are on opposite sides of the argument. The main two characters here are brilliant at what they do. They go on a date and find themselves very attracted to each other. Of course they have no idea they each are enemies.I felt very intrigued the whole way through this book and when I finished it I was smiling. This is the standard that I enjoy and it makes me want to go back and look for more of her books. The time and effort shown in comparison to others is obvious, though her subjects are interesting to me. There is just more work put in here, more adventure and more time put in to add that extra little WOW moment that you were not expecting. Even small paragraphs that have your heart racing. They are memorable and truly add to the background story. They don't have to be in great detail but they just give the reader that extra little dig as they read.

Bitumen is bad...but this is rather good
I know nothing about the environmental issues surrounding oil extraction (my only previous experience coming from episodes of Dallas!) but Ms MacGregor appears to have done her homework. She certainly convinced me! Further, there were two things I particularly liked in this: Firstly, when Stacie (Marlene) realises who Cathryn (Cate) is, instead of there being a big emotional, completely unrealistic, dramatic reveal, they talk about it! They actually communicate as real people do! Also, finally we find an author who isn't afraid to accept that women experience a monthly visitation that never seems to interfere with the final explosive coming together of girl and girl in the mass of romantic lesfic out there. For that, if nothing else, Ms MacGregor deserves a prize!

A nice warm fuzzy glow
No great surprises here. It's easy to guess the ending almost from the first page but it plays out well. Both main characters are believable and likeable and, although some of the minor characters are a bit cliched - the bad guy and the main oil magnate stand out as examples - there are none that jar. It's sort of the literary equivalent of one of those rom-coms that leaves you going "ahh! That was nice" as the closing credits roll. So, major literature, not so much but then it's not trying for that. What it does try for - and more than achieve - is that nice warm fuzzy glow of a well written feel-good romance.

Hmmmm
Good read really well written with a cast of interesting characters and a story that needs to be told. Great research and very informative without losing the suspense or the romance. Good love story with a hot connection between two very interesting leading ladies. The subject of what the oil industries are doing to our planet and how difficult they make it to stand against them was great . I enjoyed this and know I will be rereading.

Great story of 2 women, attracted to each other but on opposite sides in a dispute. This tells the wonderful story of how they overcome all sorts of difficulties
