Peluso 22 251 Vacuum Tube Microphone  The Peluso 22 251 is styled after one of the world's rarest and most coveted microphones. It captures the nuances of the vintage "251" sound. The Peluso 22 251 employs a dual sided edge-terminated 34mm gold-coated Mylar capsule and a 6072A glass triode tube. The circuitry and transformer have been designed to match the vintage "251". Whether you're micing snare drums or steel guitars, violins or vocals, the 22 251 will provide great results. The 22 251 is paired with the Peluso MX-56 power supply. The dual sided capsule in the 22 251 enables the power supply to feature 9 polar patterns in an array from omni-directional to cardioid to figure eight. The 22 251 features our heavy-duty 8-pin screw on cable connector. The large diameter pins in the screw on connector give a tight and secure cable connection designed to perform for a lifetime of use. Acoustically matched pairs available upon special request. I love it!
Not all mics are the same, but they can get very close to one another. For example, a U47 may not sound like another U47. It depends on many, many factors!I've compared this mic to a Telefunken ELA M 251 (non-export) model on several different sources (drums, male/female vocals, 3 saxophones, flute, and acoustic guitar). Although there are some minor differences, I get the same vibe from this mic. There's a slight more sweetness and plush-ness to the Tele-251, but the Peluso 22 251 holds its own very well. It has essentially the same mid-range warmth as the Tele-251, but with a tighter low-end. For the money, this mic is a winner for me!I have this mic, an Avantone cv12, and a Peluso 22 47 LE. I love them all, as they each perform different, but equally great roles! If you like the ELA M 251 sound, but you're on a budget, this is your mic!
