Really good alternative
the thing that cough my eye for this BT Receiver was the price and the size, I've had it for a couple of weeks and its working properly and as intended. . . i just want to point out one thing, i read in some reviews that this BT Receiver had to be paired every single time you turn it ON, i have to say that it is not true, To pair the device for the first time you have to press the power button for 7 seconds until you see the blue and red lights blinking, then you can head to your device Bluetooth settings (i've used it with an Ipod Touch 4g, Samsung Galaxy S3 & Windows 8 PC) it should appear in your options, if asked for pin just put 0000 and done. I use this BT Receiver with my Ipod Touch mostly, so after i use it, i turn the Bluetooth off on my ipod, when i want to use it again here is what i do,,, turn my Ipod's bluetooth and the BT Receiver ON, i dont have to do anything else, they pair on their own, to achieve this, you have to PRESS the power button ONLY until you see the first blue light ( press for about 5 secs) and let go of the power button. If you keep holding power you will get the BT Receiver to go into discovery mode, (blue and red blinking lights) prompting you to pair the device again, Pros; -Good Price -Small size -Easy to use -Has a good range with no obstructions -Good Battery Life (i've used it for 7 consecutive hours with battery left and more than 11 cummulative hrs) -Works while charging (will turn off after plugging it in (if On)you just have to turn it back on and let it re-pair by itself (will keep a constant red light with the flashing blue) Cons: -The building materials feel a little fragile, especially the power button and the 3.5mm cable coming out of this device which is thinner that what some would expect (about the thickness of ipod's earphones) -Losses considerable amount of communication after going through some obstacles like a door or a wall -Paired it with two PCs and with one of the them the audio had some lag about a sec or two, (really bad when watching videos, but could of been the BT on the PC that was at fault but just letting you know) -The usb cable is not a standard usb to micro/mini-usb cable, so if you lose your charging cable you may be out of luck Over all i think that this is a good purchase and good device, i have used this on my car and its excellent, also good in my house as long as i dont keep going to different rooms i would recommend it to my friends...

Works Very Well
I have now used the receiver for several weeks and am very pleased. I bought it to supply Bluetooth audio from my Motorola Droid X2 phone to an AM/FM radio/CD player in my boat. It easily paired to the phone and worked perfectly. I also tried it in my shop to feed a different audio player and found I could get about 45 ft away before reception became a problem - although this is probably more dependent on the output of the phone rather than the receiver. I also used the receiver to feed direct to head phones. I had my phone serving as a media player sending movies via HDMI cable to a 19" TV. To keep from disturbing others I did not want to use the TV's speakers. With the phone paired to the receiver the movie's video went to the TV and the audio was sent to the receiver/headphones. The headphones DO need to have a volume control as without it the sound is very loud and needs reduction. I also had read some Bluetooth devices cause a delay in the sound that makes the audio out of sync with the video but was pleased to find it was not a problem with the Bluegate. In a related topic, because it worked so well I also purchased one of their transmitters - Bluesense TRM. It too easily paired with the receiver. In the boat I now could plug the transmitter in to my old Creative Zen MP3 player or my wife's Ipod and wirelessly send the audio to the radio. This was much more convenient than messing with the wires and we could place the MP3 players anywhere we wanted. I also tried plugging the transmitter directly in to the headphone jack on my TV when not using the phone as a player. Then used the receiver with headphones (with volume control) plugged in and it created a wireless system for listening to the audio when watching. Worked well with no sound lag - perfect audio sync. Yes, the on/off button is small but I can live with it. Yes, it would be nice if the charger cable was a std USB mirco but the included cable gets the job done. They both do auto shutoff when you forget to turn them off manually and battery life seems totally workable. Overall I am very pleased.

Exactly what I was looking for - Works great
The headphone jack on my Samsung Galaxy SIII is a little flaky sometimes (but that's another review)... Anyway, it's more convenient to use Bluetooth, but my car doesn't have bluetooth built in. It does have an auxilary audio input though, so I've been connecting my phone or iPod through a cable to the headphone jack. But there's wires everywhere which is a little unsafe, and wireless is better if it works. The Gogroove BlueTooth adapter was the solution I was looking for and at a great price. PROS: It works, it was easy to pair with my phone, sound quality is very good (though I'm not an audiophile, so I'm not looking for true hi-fi. I just listen for clarity and no distortion. This sounds good to me. It's certainly good enough for podcasts and listening to music) Battery life seems to be very good also. I don't have to charge it very often, and if I don't use it for several days, it is still charged when I pick it up to use it. As part of the battery life, I think that it powers down or conserves power if not connected to a device. When I leave my car, I never remember to turn it off, but it's always sleeping when I come back. I think this is a feature, not a bug. CONS: Very few, and minor, but still noteworthy. You CAN get some significant distortion from this if you have your phone's volume turned up too high. I keep my phone at about 90% volume, and it sounds perfectly clear. The signal still perfectly loud enough for my car stereo to manage the volume. I just mention it, because it was an issue for me for like 5 minutes until I turned my phone down a little. Range - pretty short range. In the car, it's never a problem, so it's minor. The Blue Tooth standard is supposed to be 35ft I believe. The connection starts to get poor around 10 feet or so, and it drops much further than that. Sometimes, when I'm charging my phone, I put the Gogroove in my pocket and connect it to headphones. If I get up and walk away from my desk, it drops off. Again, this is minor, but worth noting. Connectivity - I still haven't quite figured out if this thing goes to sleep or powers off when you leave it idle and all that. Sometimes I come back to it, and hold the connect button, and it seems that I'm actually shutting it off, sometimes it comes right on and connects. It's really only a problem because my aux port in my car is in the center console under a removable tray, so usually, I'm reaching blind into the center console. That's not really the Gogroove's problem, but it is frustrating for about 30 seconds almost every time I get into my car. SUMMARY: For $30, I definitely recommend this device for anyone that wants to upgrade their car to have bluetooth stereo connectivity. It doubles as a nice way to use your headphones when it is helpful to separate the wires of the headphones from the phone itself. Keep your phone volume at about 90% or below, and rock on.

PERFECT for my need- car auxiliary in jack, iPhone streaming
I had a very specific need: wanted wireless stereo music streaming in my car which is not new and only has earlier generation bluetooth connectivity, which only does the phone with "AM radio" sound quality. Car has auxiliary stereo sound in jack in the glovebox. I have about an hour's commute to/from work every day. Got this little device and at first thought it very small, light, with thin wire to plug into auxiliary jack. Results are fantastic. Here's some detail: it charges in less than 3 hours and requires recharging about every 10 days with my current usage of about 2 hours per day. I do have to open glove box, push and hold the little button for 6 seconds, each time I get in the car and want it to work. That may be a deal breaker for those who just want an occasional on the fly use especially if unplanned. To me it's nothing, just 6 seconds to make the next hour much better. In addition to great sound quality, including not just music but streaming podcasts and news from iPhone there's another cool interplay with bluetooth- when phone rings, somehow bluetooth standards all work perfectly- the music pauses, the car takes over on its bluetooth, the phone stays connected simultaneously to BOTH bluetooth connections and after call, automatically returns to the stereo stream over this device. Really amazing. Special note- perhaps peculiar tommy car- if I use the CAR controls to ANSWER and END the bluetooth call, this works. But if I answer call by pushing answer on the PHONE, it sometimes stays connected to this device and I have to push the button telling it to choose the car's bluetooth. Over all EXTREMELY SATISFIED.

Sounds good, but it's no more convenient that using regular cables.
I drive a 2010 Honda Ridgeline. My truck has an Aux port on the passenger side of the dash, located right above a convenient storage tray where I had hoped this receiver could be placed, more or less permanently. What I wanted is a device that would automatically connect with my phone (an iPhone5) whenever I got in the truck and turned the key. This device, however, falls short on two counts. First, it does not automatically connect with my phone. After the initial pairing with my phone, I shut off the truck, and left. I came back later, and got in and started it. The phone would not connect to the device until I pressed the button on the device to get it into pairing mode. I tried it several times, and the result was the same each time. Second, the device has a built in rechargeable battery, which according to the directions is good for 12 hours. That means that unless you turn the receiver off when you get out of the car, it'll be dead by the next day, and you'll need the USB charging cable to use it. If I wanted to string a cable across my car, I'd simply use a 1/8" stereo cable, and plug the phone directly into the aux port! Now, to be fair, I knew about the battery/charge cable thing when I bought it. My plan was to take a cigarette-lighter USB charger, and hard wire it to a power source behind the dash, and just route the power cable up to the same place as the aux port. That would allow me to leave the device plugged into a power source that would turn on whenever I turned the key. But, the fact that the device won't connect automatically makes this a moot point. Since I have to reach all the way across the cab to the device, and manipulate it into pairing mode every time I want to use it, I might just as well use a cable to connect the phone to the aux jack directly. But for those of you that don't have any problem with the fact that the device doesn't connect automatically, here is my opinion on how it actually works: Once connected to your source, I found that the sound quality was perfectly acceptable. I had a hard time telling the difference between my iphone connected directly (via a stereo cable) or via this device using bluetooth. And it was definitely better sound than my factory stereo gets over XM radio. The range was impressive. My iphone didn't lose the connection with the device until I was about 50 feet away. But that's good and bad...in my case, it means that if I park my car in my garage and walk inside, my phone will stay connected and continue to play, even if the car is turned off! So, you have to manually disconnect them, or shut off the receiver when you leave the vehicle, too! There are other bluetooth devices specifically for use in a car...but the reason I didn't choose one of those was because I have not been able to ascertain if it is possible to only use the A2DP portion of those devices that also provide hands-free phone capability. My truck already has very good hands-free bluetooth phone integration, and I want to continue using that to make and receive calls. So, anyway, long story short is this...Once connected, this receiver works really well for streaming music to an amplifier from a bluetooth device...but it's a pain in the butt if you're trying to use it in an automobile as a way to connect your phone to your car stereo...It's much easier, and quicker, to simply use a 1/8" stereo cable to connect the two.

Does exactly what it says it does, and well.
Neat little thing. Worked right out of the box, didn't even need to read instructions. Just hold the only button on the thing down for about 7 seconds, my iPhone 4 (from the Settings app, General > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on) immediately discovered and paired with the device. From there, any audio I played from any app had a new icon (sort of looks like this: [^]) that allowed me to select whether I'd like to play the sound out of the iPhone's built in speaker, or through the Bluegate. I bought this not knowing if it would work while charging, or if it would go dead while it was connected to a power source (as it has it's own built-in rechargeable battery.) I bought this for my wife's car, and would rather just wire it up once and for all to be constantly plugged in. I'm happy to say that it DOES in fact work while charging. This also means that I personally will likely never need to worry about battery life. My only gripe is a small one, and not worth knocking a star off, is the female-to-female headphone barrel connector doesn't perfectly work with my headphones. My headphones aren't the ones that came with my iPhone but they are made for the iPhone (they have a remote and mic inline) and therefore the male segmented end might be different than a regular pair of headphones. With a little fiddling, it sounds just fine, but if I push the jack in to the barrel connector as far as it goes, the audio is distorted. If I pull it out just a tiny tiny bit, it sounds great. But I personally won't be using it like that, so I'm not concerned. Again, this might just be my headphones; I don't have "regular" headphones nearby to test with. This also does not work in any capacity to connect a headphones+mic set like mine to be used in phone calls if anyone's curious (I knew it wouldn't, no where did they advertise it as doing so, just thought I'd note that if anyone was wondering.) Awesome little product overall.

Works great in my automobile
I bought the GoGroove BlueGate Bluetooth Reciever for use in my 2009 Chevy Equinox that has built in Bluetooth for making calls, but doesn't have the feature to stream music. I opened the package in my vehicle and I had it working in less than two minutes without even using the instructions. It was that easy. Pairing was a breeze and then I plugged the GoGroove into the aux input on the radio. I then charged it with the included USB cable. Now, when I get in the vehicle, I hit the button on the GoGroove for a few seconds until the blue light lights. I hit the play button on my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and I'm good to go. When I receive or make a call using the radios built in Bluetooth, the music stops. When I am done with the call and hang up, the music continues automatically. Also, when my daughter is in the vehicle, she can control the music from the back seat using the phone and I don't have to hear the old "can you change the station please". An added plus I must say. The sound quality is great, as good as the direct connection was. I have my phone in an Otterbox case, and connecting the cable from my phone to the aux in jack on the radio was a pain. I am totally happy with my purchase and no more cables from my phone to the radio. Awesome. Update Sept 11, 2014 I was driving yesterday and used Google maps for navigation. I was listening to music thru the GoGroove and when the navigation made an announcement, the music stopped and the announcement came out over the radio. When the announcement was done, the music resumed where it left off. I like this because it is much easier to hear the directions when it uses the radio speakers in the vehicle than it is to hear the tiny speaker in my Samsung Galaxy S5. Also,I read multiple posts that people were having all kinds of problems turning the GoGroove on. (Not knowing how long to hold power button, going into pairing mode, etc.) I simply hold the power button until I see the blue light on the GoGroove light, it is easy to see, and then I let go of the button. It works fine every time for me. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Works very well with some minor annoyances
I purchased this after receiving two new LG cell phones (Venice and Spectrum). Something I've noticed with LG phones is that their headphone audio output is nowhere near what I'm used to from other phones (e.g. Motorola Droid 2). I like to stream audio from my phones on a daily basis, and it was honestly quite annoying to have to set my car's audio volume to close to double what I set every other input device to. Even less fun is when I forgot to turn the volume back down and switched to another source... I decided enough is enough and purchased this device. Now the volume is back to "normal" levels and there is very, very little loss in quality. The device DOES pair as both a media audio and phone audio device, allowing you to both listen to media AND hear phone calls through your car's speakers. It switches between the two automatically - meaning if you get a call and answer it, you will hear the caller through your speakers, and when you hang up, it switches back to media. I don't use this functionality so I disabled the "phone audio" pairing on my phone, but the couple of times I tested it, it worked well. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, which is important because I'll use it every single day. Now for some minor annoyances, which will pretty much mirror everyone else's comments: 1.) The device does not turn on automatically when power is applied. It would be really nice if the device turned on automatically when I started my car, but it doesn't hurt to just press the power button for a moment. 2.) The device seems to shut itself off if you plug in power while it's on. Meaning, if I am streaming music to it, and decide to plug the power cord in, it shuts off. I then have to turn it back on. (I am able to charge and stream at the same time - no issues there.) 3.) The output cable really does seem flimsy. I'm pretty sure I'm going to break it some day. Why didn't they just make it a female stereo plug on the device itself? As a bonus, they do include a short female/female cable that you can use for extension purposes - or if you already have a cable that you were plugging into output devices. 4.) Non-standard charging port. Although you can charge the device using any USB power source (nice!), the other end of the cable is non-standard. Don't lose it! I knew all of these things prior to purchase and for the price I figured I could deal. I'm glad I bought it.

Wish it would stay on
This works fine. No issues with pairing and in use. The only thing I would like is for it to stay switched on. I have it plugged in to a charger in the car and wish it would stay on so when I get in the car it would just connect to the phone. Listed to podcasts and music in the car and have found it to be perfectly listenable. No obvious interference from the car electrics which you can sometimes get. It is small enough to be handy but doesn't get in the way. Works and worth a try.
