Gishy Goo Orthodontic Wax for Braces, Brackets, Wires Pain Relief (5 Count)

****Edited to ad comparison to dental wax and durability Works as advertised. I purchased this 5 pack of gishy goo in preparation for getting braces. My braces were put on today. Though no wires were poking me, the bracket on my lower right canine was starting to irritate my lips. Brushed my teeth and brackets, took some paper towel and dried my tooth and bracket well, then followed mixing instructions. You definitely want to mix it for at least 20 seconds to ensure that it doesn't flatten too much over the brackets/wires. I honestly don't notice the bubble gum scent. Works well has stayed on for this last hour. Will try eating with it later. In my pictures it looks like a whiter tooth, that is the gishy goo over my bracket. After eating different hot and cold food and varieties of textures I can tell you that gishy goo holds up where dental wax fails. You need to dry your brackets in order for gishy goo and dental wax to effectively cling to them. When eating hamburgers the dental wax came off and I ate it unknowingly. The gishy goo side stayed on tight and I had to pry it off when ready to brush. The dental wax does not hold up to hot drinks and soup at all. The gishy goo side again stayed on tight. While sleeping the wax stayed on but the heat of my mouth softened it and made the brackets poke through. I also found the dental wax more difficult to mold. Once you apply it to your bracket you only have a second or two to get it molded on. The gishy goo is amazing. I actually under mixed it, put it on my bracket and then had several seconds to mold it onto my bracket correctly. Removal of dental wax is fairly easy as it seems to come off when you don't it to. Removal of gishy goo takes more effort, but is still easy to remove. I pry it with my fingernails or a dental pick. The gishy goo is significantly more expensive, but the product is superior. Braces can rub the inner mucosa raw, the discomfort will affect your sleep and daily life. If you are getting braces of have a child getting braces, this really is a necessary product. Consider it part of the investment of braces and buy the bulk pack of gishy goo before your banding appointment.

Absolutely a must for braces

This may not be the easiest product to work with, but it works better than traditional wax because 1) it sticks better, and 2) its shape can be customized to wherever you need to place it and whatever you need to place it upon. Once you get the hang of the application process, it's so much better than wax. If you're concerned about the price, only use it in instances when wax will not work, instead of all the time. Tip: wet your fingers slightly before applying the product to your braces. This will help the goo not adhere to your fingers as much while it sets and hardens. Roll the goo into a little ball and apply. Hold the goo in place on your braces with your fingers until it starts to set, then you should be able to slowly pry your fingers off when it hardens. I kind of use my tongue a little bit to help pry it off my fingers.

I am an adult and I have braces. I was excited to get this product because I thought I had finally found something that would stay put and easy to use. Well, it does neither. It is difficult to use. There is such a small window for when the product is ready to be applied. If I apply to early, it comes back out on my finger. If I apply to late, in just a couple seconds, it is already set and won't attach to those pointy areas that are bugging me. Add to that the expense of Gishy Goo, and I just don't have enough evidence to purchase this product again, or recommend it to someone else.

When wax isnt enough to prevent my braces from hurting the inside of my mouth, this product is great! Sticks nicely to braces to protect my mouth but also comes off easily. Hardens nicely.

I came across this wax and decided to try it out. Although the price is on the higher side, I find it much better than other types and brands of orthodontic wax. It is easier to apply, saves time, and stays firmly on the brackets. After mixing, you need to shape it quickly before it sets and hardens. I even managed to reuse it on the same day after eating and brushing my teeth. This is by far the best one I've used.
