They do the job for the amount of $ spent on them. It was nice it came with some wood blocks to get you going on day 1, though a little on the small side. They dull out a little fast and the carving pieces on a few of them weren't sturdy and needed to glue them into the handles for stability.It was a good starter kit to see if you like carving/whittling.

The quality of the wood is acceptable for total beginners, but don't expect to make details in this.The real issue is with the blades. First of all, the blades looked a bit stained right out of the box and when I tried them they were dull. Second, if you see the attached images, the metal came broken on one of the tools.I specified that is for a one time use, because after your first carving, if you enjoy it, you quickly realize that this quality of tools just isn't going to be anywhere near good.

I bought this kit as a handicraft study for one of my boys, but all three of my boys (ages 9-17) were carving with it as soon as it arrived. They all loved it! I also purchased a pair of cut resistant gloves for my youngest and within minutes I was relieved that he had them on! These wood carving knives are EXTREMELY sharp. My boys have all whittled with their pocket knives for years and they are now having a great time exploring with the different shapes of these carving knives. They are now asking for an instructional book because they want to learn how to carve different designs.

The blocks included in my purchase were enough to meet my whittling needs. The tools were sharp and didn't hurt my hands even after hours of carving. So far I've created few projects and looking forward to a lot more!

I purchased this as a gift for my grandsons Birthday. Of course he had to use it right away. Best gift for a beginner.

the wood blocks are great. The tools are good and sharp but about a week into using them one of the blades disconnected from its handle while I was carving. It fit back in but it’s lose. It still works I might try just super gluing it in.

Excellent kit for the beginning carver. This kit has everything you will need to hone your skills.

Using just a pocket knife is making this difficult, I got a carving tool from Michael's...whole different experience!
