The bento is made of wood, with two compartments that can fit a traditional Japanese bento lunch, but it may be a bit small for western diets. This is NOT leakproof. The compartments have some depth to them. The bottom compartment does not have a lid, the top piece is notched to fit into place. The bento had a wooden smell that went away after a wash with warm soapy water. The divider does not fit snugly in the compartments, but it is suitable to keep ingredients apart as long as there is no sauce or liquid. It is more a special occasion bento instead of an everyday lunchbox. It is a very pretty piece. I am pleased with my purchase. Edit: a wooden fork and spoon were also included. Very nice and polished utensils. They are too pretty for me to want to use.

Some people might find this one small, but i think its perfect if you are trying to control your portion sizes. It also depends what you put in and how compact (i managed to put a big plate of rice in just one container). Best part is that you can use it in the microwave and its easy to clean. The box has some weight to it so it feels really nice and good quality. Was expecting some smell because of the material but didnt have the slightest hint of smell at all. Came with a cute spoon and fork, and the stretchy band.

Very distinguish lunch box. The box, however, does leak. BUT it is a practical lunch box that gets the job done. It does have a woody aftertaste that absorbs into the food, but after a few washes and letting it airdry from the package usually gets the smell away.

This is a great wooden box if you know what you're looking for! It is not leak proof and you can't throw it in the dishwasher, but it's a beautiful, lightweight, easy maintenance option. The only thing I wish I'd thought about before purchasing is that the lid sits flat over each shelf, so there's no extra clearance. That means the overall dimensions for each shelf aren't very tall, so you can't put in things like full size rice balls, for example. I have to make them small and squish them a bit to flatten. So think about what it is you'll be packing before you buy.

Excellent. Well built, great size (I fit a handful of nuts, a half dozen small crackers, 8 mini carrots, a few small blocks of cheese, and 2 chicken rice balls (each about 2")) in the unit with no problems. Its perfect for small portion protein/carb eating post workout or a portion/calorie controlled lunch. If you're looking for something to hold a couple of sandwiches, this isn't going to do the job. It's held together by gravity when stacked, so no vacuum seal. Liquids are a no go, and there is no type of hot or cold retention, so room temp foods are the best bet. Customer service seems tops. I contacted them about receiving some additional divider pieces and they were friendly, obliged, very fast to reply, and very reasonable on price. Very happy with this purchase and seller.

Excellent quality, a bit smaller than anticipated

People say that the bento box is too small for adult portions. I'm a full grown adult with a full grown appetite, and this was a perfectly controlled proportion for myself as I was even able to share. I did not test out the utensils that came with the box, they were small and just didn't match the aesthetic of my bento and box. I used aluminum foil to line the bento box and prevent any type of leaking, so cleaning was pretty easy for me by handwashing. I did not, however, test without it so I cannot speak on cleaning with food directly in the bento box or dishwashing. I did order separately their set of utensils that better fit the aesthetic of the box (I really think they should include this set instead of the set it comes with, I did include of side-by-side comparison of the 2 sets). The separate set came with chopsticks, a carrying case, and I do recommend ordering a furoshiki to easily package and carry the bento box. I overall really do love this bento box, I'm giving it 4 stars because this store has the perfect match for utensils in their inventory, but they send you something not even close to the same stain colors, and very small might I add, with no chopsticks or carrying case...it's giving they're trying to milk more money off you unnecessarily when they can just add the extras to the bento box price, you'll want to get their other set if you're anything like me. But other than that, this purchase was pretty much worth it, I love it! You will too!

This is such a fantastic item, I cannot tell you how great it is. For the price I do not think you will get a better product. I am pretty picky on things, and this is so great I can’t tell you how good it it is. It is a well made wooden bento box. It is stylish and beautiful and for lunch at work it makes you feel good. I have always loved bento boxes but have struggled with finding traditional ones. This is not plastic. It is wood, so you do need to take care of it. But to will enjoy it so much. I really love this, cannot say more. If you have doubts, don’t. You’ll love it. I want to say that I am not someone who normally comments on purchases as many people give reviews that I think am biased - I know they are not biased, but I am also wary. To be clear. I have no monetary interest in the company who sold me this. And I do not know them. But this is a great item!! You won’t be disappointed. Thanks for reading this far.

I love it. Its the simple and sustainable design. At office lunch I get to take this out and show that im the most authentic person lol.
