My current water shoes don't, but have no arch support so hurt after using.** A: They have not absorbed any odors for me and I've worn them pretty heavily. Also, re: arch support I've gone on 12+ mile hikes in them and had some issue with the amount of support. So, definitely great for in/out of the water and getting around. But, not for longer days and trips where one day is all water and the next day is all land. **Q: Completely water proof??** A: No. Its a water shoe. It is fairly fast drying but its meant to get wet. I use this for things like kayaking and snorkeling. **Q: How are these barefoot/without socks?** A: I haven't tried them bare yet but did get these water socks and they were comfortable to use. They will likely not drain thicker mud nor will they likely have incredible mud traction as the mud will act as a layer of lubricant between the sole and ground, but once the thick mud is off the sole, they will perform superbly. One other thing to note, in my experience, not wearing socks and the shoe is wet, some of the stitching irritates the foot over time. I originally had the Maipo 1, but these are much better, lighter and more versatile than I expected. Very light weight and lots of mesh on the uppers that seriously keep my feet cool even on the hottest days compared to any of my other Merrells - even better than the original Maipo. They have decent support and good laces and I've been wearing them pretty much as my daily drivers since I got home. They are not hiking shoes by any means, but I did some hiking in them and they work for light trails.
