Princeton Aqua Elite, Series 4850, Synthetic Kolinsky Watercolor Paint Brush,Round, 4

It holds paint and water well. It keeps it's point. Great for detail and for what one would paint with a round brush.

I rec'd this today and to test it out I painted the attached pic. When I first got it, I was surprised by the size - it is big! I put the brush in the ref photo - pad used is a 4x6. I thought - it will be good for washes. The brush came with a large plastic covering, so on mine tip is protected well. If you look at the photo, you'll see I did a lot of little designs first (and keep in mind the pad is small) and then I came back to paint the background of the clothes and as you can see the tip was so good that I was able to paint around the designs easily and intricately. GREAT TIP. Then I did a wash around the edges - wetting the paper first and painting in - holds a great amount of water (I was able to wet all edges easily without going back to dip it in water again). The handle is fantastic - it has a soft rubber like coating and is very comfortable. Note: you don't remove the plastic around the coil. I've seen people ask that before and that's a no. Overall - I LOVE THIS BRUSH!!! I loved painting with it so much I bought another to keep with me as my plein air brush as well as it's the only one I need. If you are a beginner, get this brush and save money buying different brands and types - not really needed. If you are more advanced, you will love this brush as well. I've wanted a quill for awhile and finally got around to getting one - wish I'd bought one a few years ago as I could have saved a lot of money on the other brushes. Easy to paint with - easy to control - holds paint well - blends well - washes well - and easy clean.

I didn’t know how badly I needed this brush until I started using it. It holds a lot of water and has a really nice point so I can go from large areas to fine detail without switching brushes.

Prob the nicest paintbrush I’ve ever owned at 10 years of oil painting. Nothing better than Kilinsky Sable to get those blends just right and the angled cut is sharp. Handle is grippy and smooth. Best of the best… Will be buying again.

I’m new to watercolor so I’ve had a bit of a learning curve with this brush. I am left-handed annd all of the instructional videos that I’ve seen about how to use it are made by a right handed person. Nevertheless I have learned to make some very pretty petals with it. I like how I’m able to load the brush with two different colors as well. It’s well-made, holds a lot of water for the size and snaps right back into shape so I would definitely purchase it again.

Love this watercolor brush!

The brush itself is very nice, well made and very useful. Shipping was quick, but the packaging was a problem. It was sent in a mailing envelope and the protective shield had been forced off the bristles in transit. Luckily it wasn't completely ruined, but it should have at least a right inner wrapping to protect what is ultimately a delicate, not cheap, watercolor brush.

The packing was disappointing It looked used without the plastic cap Had to fix the bristles using hot water.. Princeton as always, does what it says, the brush is good!

I love the Princeton Aqua Elite series. Great and reliable brushes that won’t deplete your bank account.

This is the most versatile brush I own. It holds a lot of water and has an amazing handle finish. Good for fine lines. Size 12 might be a little bit bigger for beginners who paint A5 or smaller. The Elite series is definitely good for beginners and professionals. Neptune brushes are also good, but softer compared to this one, which isn't bad, just different. The closest brushes that I have from other brands are the Escoda Versitail, but this one has a long point, which some people may not like. Unfortunately, most YouTube reviews do not accurately represent the reality of the brushes, so I guess everyone should find out for themselves. What I can say for sure is that if you are serious about watercolour painting, you need a good brush. It doesn't matter as much for acrylics as it does for watercolours, where the brush needs to hold water and release the liquid evenly. This brush is top class and very versatile for beginners and advanced painters. If you are not sure about the long tip, there is a normal version which I have in size 8, and it is fantastic.
