Mahalla Jackson, a famous Gospal singer. This lady has always ben on top of the Gospel ingers for years, I don't know a time that she did not make it to the top. She was a great Lady. This album has two CDS, and it is jam packed, with her music. Her voice was very song, and this lady mde it happen.(SHE PUT HER HEAR AND SOUL IN GOSPEL MUSIC, EVRYTIME SHE SANG, YOU COULD FEEL IT.) This is a great album. It also has Spirituals and Hyms also. It is in Stereo. She was a big lady, and had plenty of full power to back up her voice. Maybe you did not know this but she also played the piano, she played and sang many times.I saw her perform once, and she took my breath away by her strong voice of Gospel Hyms. Get it you will enjoy this Gospel, hhymn, and losts of singing. I recommend this album. Jim in Ohio.

Just the Very Very Best
I had this in the early 1990s and with moving the 2 CD version got damaged..i was so thrilled to find the replacement on Amazon.com..She was a national treasure and once again I can enjoy her music..I read her Bio too it was almost 400 pages and our now late Aretha Franklin is in one of her chapters when they met with Aretha was 16yrs old..ive enjoyed her music and it speaks to ones hearts...read her bio if you get a chance....

Buoyant Collection From The Queen of Gospel Music
"Gospel, Spirituals, and Hymns" is one of the best, if not the best, collection of songs by the great Mahalia Jackson. Ms. Jackson is still consider the preeminent female gospel singer of all time, and this package will do nothing but burnish her reputation.Her voice soars, rattles, shakes, and coerces the listener to believe. Her artistry was in conveying such raw, heartfelt emotion that there was no question about her sincerity and belief in her music and its source. Songs like "Great Gettin Up Morning," "Elijah Rock," "I Will Move Up A Little Higher," "If We Never Needed The Lord Before (We Sure Do Need Him Now)," "God Put A Rainbow In The Sky," and many, many others confirm the need for all gospel music lovers to own this record.

What's not to love about a Mahalia Jackson CD?..
I bought this CD and Volume II back in 2002. My mother loved Mahalia Jackson, so I grew up listening to her in vinyl round the clock it seemed. I actually thought I couldn't stand to hear another Mahalia Jackson song as long as I lived. But as an adult, I found myself humming some of the songs my mother had played over and over, and one day I realized I missed Mahalia's voice. When I bought these collections of hers, I actually went searching specifically for Mahalia Jackson music. Imagine my mother's surprise when I told her I had Mahalia Jackson blasting in my house the way she'd done when I was growing up! :-) There are still more Mahalia Jackson songs that I'm looking for that, in all the songs on these collections, weren't included. That's my only disappointment with these. But the quality of the recordings -- classic Mahalia!

Great Singing by Mahalia Jackson.
It was good to sit and listen to Mahalia signing all the various Gospels, Spirituals, and Hymns on one CD. As always she was at her best in signing them. Anyone who loves to hear Gospels, Spirituals, and Hymns sung by the best needs to but this CD, as she is at her best on this CD. Excellent sound and clarity.

Songs we should all know
I was amazed at the quality of the songs ... my mom enjoyed alot of songs stopping and remembering the words ... 94 yo she thoroughly enjoyed songs from the 1950s and 1960s

I DID NOT LIKE AS MUCH AS I THOUGHT I WOULD, BUT THEN I PLAYED THE CD A SECOND AND A THIRD TIME AND I GREW TO LIKE.

Vieleicht liegt daran dass sie zu tiefst überzeugt ist darüber was Sie singt. Enormer Quelle von geistiger Kraft, welcher mir im Leben sehr gut tut.

Endlich
Nach vielen Jahren ca. fünfzig habe ich endlich das" Trouble of the world", das im Film "Das ist mein Leben" zuerst gehört habe, auf CD. Mahalia Jackson ist einmalig.
