Wifi for my caravan
This box is portable, lightweight and charges via a usb charging cable type C. You need to purchase separately a data SIM card. I have used Amazon and purchased an unlimited data card for 30 days which works on the O2 network. I had a mobile on O2 so I knew there was a signal. My wife’s mobile was Vodafone and again there was a signal. If there is no signal this box will not work. This box works only on the 4G band. There is a different box for 5G. This box is a mobile 4G Router and works very well indeed. So good it will easily cope with 4 people browsing the web. For me a massive plus is that you can stream Netflix and other TV services without it needing to pause and catch-up ie buffering. I have not needed to purchase an external Ariel as this is built in and omni directional so no need to point at the nearest 4G mast but it works best on a high shelf so I think height may give a better line of sight for the signal. Once you open the box and charge the unit fully you need to prize open the back to insert the SIM card. Remember copper contacts down so they engage the contacts in the box. You then switch the unit on and wait for it to go through its startup routine. The button on the front panel is a touch sensitive type so there is no movement or click. You have to complete a short form on the display. You input the name of the unit and the APN. One SIM supplier included this info with the SIM card. Another had to be emailed for it. This came back within the day so no problem. My APN was Mobile.O2.Co.uk and you have to message them to enable the sim and this only happens during the working day! Once it’s enabled the button glows blue when you touch it and the display shows O2 and up and down arrows. Not difficult to set up. My sim only lasts 30 days and up to 7 days before I can renew on online. I have missed this several times. Usually at the weekend! Happy streaming

Great bit of kit
Ok so this is not the cheapest, but it has the best features. It's mor like a conventional router than a pop in your pocket Mifi unit. The battery lasts about a day. Charging needs to be done with the power adater that came with it or a suitable high wattage charger, it will take an age to charge this from a standard USB charge, if at all. I use this mainly in my caravan which with an external antenna is great. Plug in a USB stick with a few films on and your good to stream them on to any device that is connected to it. Dual band WiFi and a good old fashioned ethernet port means that you can connect anything you like. The Netgear App is probably the best way to make any necessary adjustments. All in all a really good buy.

Good Router but expensive
Now I’m no techie so my expertise in this area is limited, and I rely a lot on others knowledge and experiences... Now I suppose the one thing that is most striking is the price. I had to think long and hard before shelling out, but fortunately it came up on a Amazon Prime Day deal which made it easier to swallow.... As for the technical side of things I only have my hotspot phone to compare it with. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos on various routers and overall this came in as the router that ticked my boxes... We regularly travel away in our camper and this makes things easier for a start. The connectivity to our other devices is easy as is the speed it runs at. We both tend to stream a lot more these days and connecting things like a fire stick or other devices is very useful. We both also like to check our emails and keep up to date with family and friends, or more than not simply scroll through FB. Some will say a much cheaper router could have done this, but I’m a better to have more eggs in the basket than 1 or 2 type of person so it’s all down to personal choices.... The one thing I’m still experimenting with at the moment is antennas. I’ve seen that many conflicting reports that it’s hard to know for certain which is the right one. I started off with the basic Bingfu twin Ariel. They are cheap an cheerful and do an okay job. I’m now experimenting with a Poynting Puck antenna which seems to be better but still not perfect. My next port of call will be the Poynting 4g and a more expensive antenna. So I think it will be just a case of experimentation ..... My one area of concern are the pins where you connect your SMA to TS9 adapters for the antenna. They seem very tiny and fragile, and after reading reports of others breaking them off when inserting the adapters it makes me nervous. Some of the adapters seem very tight to fit in and require a little more pushing, and also don’t seem to push in very far at all. So at the moment I’m being very careful when I do this.... You will also need a SIM card for the M2 to function. At the moment I’m using a Smarty unlimited data card which has worked well in all the areas we’ve travelled too. I’ve also googled areas that we will be traveling to in the future, so may well use a different provider depending on where we are. EE seems to be the most used one. I regularly do a Speed test so everything is down to what you want .... So overall what does a no tech person think of the M2 ? .... I like how it looks and the ease of use. I can connect up to 20 devices but at the moment 3 or 4 has been our limit, and up to now have not had any real technical issues. It has very good speed capabilities, but no doubt like everything will be superseded in the future. I can use it at home/office or on the move, either in my van/car or in my pocket. It probably requires some protection such as a case or holder. In settings I can see who is online and block others from using it. I can set security levels, and check how much data I’m using.... As a 4G router I think it’s very good and suits my own personal requirements. As for the cost of purchasing? I’m retired so income is limited, however past experiences tell me what is a better option, but this will always be something down to your personal choice and pocket.... For now I will give it 4 stars simply because of the cost.

Works but very expensive
Hard product to review, not many comparable products on the market. Personally it's got me out of trouble not being able to have wifi installed in my house currently. It works, I'm getting very variable speeds [8 mbs to 101 mbs] even using ethernet cables and the router always showing 4G+ in an urban area with strong wifi. Still to try connecting a Poynting arial to see if that makes for a steadier connection when I get the right TS9 connectors. Main sticking point is the construction of this thing, considering its almost the same cost as an iPhone it's all plastic body makes it feel so cheap. The back which requires removing often if using the battery has an absolutely appalling design with snap on clips, can easily see those failing. Personally I just have it plugged in full time without the battery installed. So, if you need emergency wifi or you're travelling this is a good option with a data only sim card deal.

Don't waste your time and money!
Bought this thinking it would be a quick and useful Wi-Fi router. How wrong I was! Before I start my rant.... here is one thing I was impressed with: 1) My SMARTY Sim card worked immediately, without the need to re-configure any network settings. Here's why I ultimately returned it to Amazon: 1) Build quality is really bad - touchscreen is laggy and slow, not exactly what you'd expect from a £330 device. 2) Speeds are not what you'd expect - (This will obviously vary based on area) I tested this in London where I get full 5 bars of 4G+, but yet never got above 21mbps download speed. Not the kind of speed you'd expect from a flagship device. 3) The Wi-Fi range is utterly rubbish! Any device more than a couple of metres away just mysteriously drops "off the" network. 4) It does NOT support 2.4 & 5Ghz simultaneously - can only be configured as two separate Wi-Fi networks. 5) Netgear include some handy (read: 'useless') features in their app and online. They dont work! I wasn't able to update the firmware OR use the parental control feature - and that was after a week of trying! Conclusion: Don't waste your time and money, there are plenty CHEAPER & SUPERIOR options out there to consider.

Can’t believe I’ve only just got one- absolutely brilliant.
Excellent bit of kit for a mobile office. Does exactly what it says on the box, easy to set up, and when I’m home I plug it into a Netgear extender and the whole house has internet. SIM card is £30/month for unlimited use (sold separately-I got the SIM from EE in the U.K.) ... unlimited internet whether I’m in the car, stuck in traffic so have to quickly hold that teams call and present my screen while parked in a lay-by or in a garage, if you’re in a coffee shop and you want secure ‘instant’ internet rather than than having to provide your life history to their ’free’ internet service. When I’m in the car with all four kids who want to stream or play games on their mobile devices, iPads etc. and likewise if you’re out in the countryside. On holiday if this lockdown ever lifts. The range is up to about 15m line of sight but is not strong enough for home use to get through walls etc. hence I bought Netgear’s EAX 80 Wi-fi extender to connect it to when I’m home. For mobile office and general home use this mobile router is perfect, I’m really really impressed. Battery life is also phenomenal, I’d suggest a week between charges, is what I’m currently doing and I usually have 6 devices connected through it using it all day 12/13 hours a day at least. Though I’m not sure what the spec says on battery life. I’m pretty sure the number of connections it can manage is more, I think it’s up to 20. Again, more than I have ever needed. Brilliant bit of kit not only has it created a home office where ever I am, but it’s also cut my home internet costs in half, to that regard it would have paid for itself in just a few months!

Netgear Nighthawk MR5200. Initial comments both very good and not so much, given the high cost!
This is an initial review relating to the Netgear Nighthawk MR5200 which was boughr 6 Jan 2021 (the initial pubished review date is wrong!). The M5 has given a very good overall impression so far BUT given the exceptionally high cost, I offer the following comments: Initially then, the initial setup was strangely problematic at first start-up, but after a very straight forward for network selection. Specifically, on initial start-up: The unit kept recycling on/off by itself. Weirdly, after I took the supplied cable out the unit then began start-up normally. Afterwards, all has worked as normal. Network connection: the MR5200 picked up the network straight away after selecting the relevant ‘APN’ setting. It also self-updated the firmware. Coverage/speed: I live in an exceptionally poor mobile signal area which has been dropping from good to “very poor” to mostly “unusable”. Therefore, I did a ‘broadband’ speed check and on first go it was MUCH faster than my old network provider unit (from 250-850kbs…yes really kbs!) and the initial test showed around 20mbs. Then I tried a large download of iPad latest update. Strangely the unit kept drooping and reconnecting with the network repeatedly. Investigation ended up indicating it was something to do with the (brand new) nano sim. I removed the sim, replaced it and got absolutely no signal/network access at all. I removed the sim again and very gently pushed it all the way into the holder withdrawing it and re-pushing it all the way back into the holder. The result was not only a stable signal but even faster speeds of around 25mbs. Then I used an external ts9 antenna, and the speed jumped to around 45mbs! More future adjustments in location etc may well help. SIM installation: In case anyone else has similar problems on start-up, the indication is the nano sim must be in exactly the right place to get a stable physical/electrical connection, and that connection may not be easy to achieve first time. Summary: some strange issues on first start-up and sim connection but once achieved is blisteringly fast compared with what I had before! Given the scary price I had expected no problems on using the unit so the initial issues are disappointing. On the plus side, even without fine tuning and learning the intricacies of the unit, it is amazingly fast and has much to commend it not least of which is good ‘future proofing’. I have had the unit for only a short time so I may add comments at a later date. UPDATE: I have just replaced the SIM with a new one to cope with a latest Apple iOS update, and I have the same connection SIM problems as before. Specifically, it keeps dropping network connection. So, given the eye wateringly high price, I cannot recommend this now unless you a) have the patience of a saint and b) very 'deep pockets'. Given this price, a Netgear customer should have trouble free setup and use! Update 2: (04-02-2021) Amazon have offered to replace the M5 when they have stock, well done and 'full marks' to them for this. I have tried to phone NETGEAR for technical support and after three calls. long waits and call cut-offs I report please don't bother with Netgear they could not care at all about new product problems or their reputation! Sadly, I still cannot recommend the Nighthawk M5.

Wish I got this sooner!
Delivery was great and the product works great. I set up my sim with EE and it's been very reliable. Even used for a funeral live stream! Great for use and gives you total independence when needing to get on the net on your own network when remote. Worth it.

- Ecran tactile capricieux. - Absence de support de l’esim (SIM classique supportée). - Tarif trop élevé.

Amazing router!
I work offshore where there is almost weak signal to sometimes no signal, yet the NETGEAR still is capable of getting a signal and a good one. Definitely worth the price and would definitely recommend this.

OTTIMO PRODOTTO
I bambini erano collegati in didattica a distanza mentre noi lavoravamo in smart-working.
