NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE All of the Scary Stories books are now available in one hardcover! These stories are some of the most terrifying tales of horror, revenge, and supernatural events of all time, collected and retold by Alvin Schwartz and featuring the classic artwork by Stephen Gammell. This jacketed hardcover edition includes the complete original books in the series in one volume: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones Review: Perfect Collection for Creepy Reading Nights - The Scary Stories Boxed Set is a fantastic pick for anyone who loves spooky tales without them being too over-the-top. The books are easy to jump into, making them great for kids, teens, or even adults who enjoy a little nostalgia. Each story is short but effective, delivering just the right amount of chills to keep you hooked without being overwhelming. One of the standout parts of this set is the classic illustrations. They add an extra layer of creepiness that really sticks with you and makes the stories more memorable. The boxed set itself is nicely put together, which makes it feel special and gift-worthy. It’s great for reading alone, sharing at sleepovers, or even reading aloud around a campfire. Overall, this collection is fun, eerie, and timeless. Whether it’s a gift or something for your own bookshelf, it’s a solid choice for anyone who enjoys spooky stories with a classic feel. Review: This is the one! The complete set of original author and illustrator! - I told these stories to my kids around the campfire starting in the 80’s and they loved these stories. My parents took me, I took my kids, and now It's my grown kids and their kids! This year they really wanted THESE stories around the fire. This year they were determined to have THESE stories. There’s nothing better than the kids snuggled up with you after these “bedtime stories”. They’re grown all too soon and the memories are priceless. I did download the audible version on the app, but there are no titles on the chapters. I’d have to listen to the whole audiobook to tell the favorites, and I chose FUN WITH THE FAM rather than hide away listening alone all day so it wasn’t spoiled for that nights fire. Let’s face it. Nothing beats a real book. Having the original to choose what to tell means everything! There is a new version using a different illustrator. The reviews weren’t great. I’d ordered this set hoping to get it in time for our 4th of July camp since I didn’t order in time for our June camp. There was never any shortage of stories, but THIS is the one they want to hear. They’d wanted these stories last year, but I didn’t know if the campground would even be open. I just ordered too late. I wanted to make SURE I got the right edition...and not only is this it, it’s the complete set! I’m thrilled, and so are my kids! These stories are just scary enough to make them exciting without having the kids afraid to ever go camping again. Of course I embellish a bit to make the setting similar to where we are camped and tweak the characters a bit, include respect for the plants and animals whose homes we are visiting and toss in a bit of common sense and safety. These stories are great, they have the kids on the edge of their seats! My son know when to slip away into the woods and snap a twig, or pop out a glow stick to move slowly at just the right time. (Except for the time where coming face to face with a skunk turned that scary moment around on him 😂) I guess I’ll just have to plan another camp this month! In these times getting away from the news, and all the doom and gloom, reminded just how precious life really is, and seeing faces illuminated by a campfire instead of a cell phone really is priceless. This is the set you want, even if you’re only camping in the backyard. I bought the original from a scholastic book order, so they aren’t meant for adults, they’re for kids, but how you tweak them when you tell them...that’s up to you!

First edition?
The books are in great condition. Are they first editions ? Not really. In the attached photo, I have an actual first edition of the 3rd book, next to the new one for comparison. As you can see the pages are smaller in the new version. That said, that’s a small detail (pun intended). I’m happy the artwork is original, and I’m grateful to once again own copies of the first two books, which were some of my favorite stories as a child. I remember just being terrified by some of them, something about them just got to you as a kid. My favorite story is The Vipper. I love how it’s a scary story with a funny ending, and part of it was the person who would read them to me growing up, did such a good job (I think it was my aunt and uncle who would read them). Anyways, amazing price, my collection is complete, I’m happy. Lol

I Dare You To Try Reading This, At Night, Alone
I dare you to try reading this after 10 pm, by candlelight, in your bed, alone at night. That's what I told myself was the *only way* to read this, and to really understand what makes this book what it is. Until you can get through *one* book reading it alone at night, you haven't lived. You have, not, lived. I have not been able to do this, yet. I tried a couple times, but as soon as I look through some pages, I just couldn't. I almost read it with another person in the room, but it wouldn't be the same, I had to do this *alone*. When I was in elementary school, this book was *the book* to read, if you could manage to rent a copy. I had to go to the public library and borrow them. I somehow managed to read it back then, but I must've been reading it in broad daylight, because I cannot manage to read it as an adult. — THE ILLUSTRATIONS — In case you aren't already aware, this book has been on top of the Banned and Challenged Books' list for years. And there's a reason why. The beautiful illustrations are the stuff of nightmares. Even writing about them right now is giving me chills down my spine. Example: one of the stories involves a character being in bed under the covers. It's really dark, and he peeks out, and see ... a thing. Some shadowy shape is standing at the edge of his bed, blended in the darkness, with barely visible, white, pupil-less eyes staring back at him. Whatever you just imagined when I described that, is what is shown on the page—that's how exceptionally scary the illustrations are. The images have since become iconic, and I haven't seen any books that replicate the terror you get from looking at these images. Glancing quickly through the pages now, as an adult, lots of the scary human-like figures have happy faces on it, but they are still scary; and to a child, it's haunting. One day, I will get the courage to read these books again (I will, darn it!) But until then, try to see if *you* can manage to read them alone at night. I dare you, I double dare you. Highly recommended. *** NOTE *** Remember to get the book set with the original illustrations (ISBN 0-06-440465-X, bar code: 9780064404655), not the Rated G new version.

Book of nightmares
This book fueled my nightmares as a child and traumatized me. As an adult though it just seems a bit disturbing these days but that is as much as it affects me. I suppose I have seen and experienced far more frightening things since reading this book as a child. So it seems almost tame these days but still oddly nostalgic. It is also great for shocking people. My friends are convinced there is no way this book was made for kids. 😁
