The seat and back are fully assembled, but nothing has been sanded. So expect to spend a bunch of time sanding everything. Also, the wood is not the highest grade, so expect the grain to split while you're doing that. I must have done 5 or 6 rounds of gluing and clamping to fix the splits and splintering. And since the seat and back are assembled, you can't really sand between the slats unless you take everything apart - which I don't recommend because they were glued as well as screwed together.In addition, the slats aren't cut flush with the sides of the seat and back. If you're not super careful when assembling the chair, it won't fold without gouging itself.A few coats of marine spar varnish after sanding made them look really good. But man, this was a lot of work for an inexpensive chair. A little more fit and finish before shipping would have made it a lot easier. And maybe a higher grade of lumber. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great investment *by R***M on Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2013* We had planned to buy 6 custom-made Adirondacks for our new backyard patio/firepit area but when that fell through we needed to find chairs in a hurry. With only a week and a half before we hosted a major social event in our backyard we found the Kilmer Creek folding Adirondack online. I emailed to see if the chairs would arrive in time for the party and when I heard from the owner that he would ship them out the following day and we'd have them by the weekend, I went ahead and ordered six of them. The owner was quick to answer emails and he was true to his word, the chairs shipped the next day and we actually received them before the weekend! My husband put them all together so I don't know much about that process though he did say that the first one took a bit of time and after that the assembly went very quickly. We love these chairs! The contoured backs are comfortable, they look great and because they fold up we can store them out of the elements without taking up a ton of space. So far, we've left them outside all the time and they are holding up beautifully. My husband put a water sealant on them to help keep their color versus weathering. The chairs are perfect for us. If I had to nitpick, I would say that the chair would be even more comfy for me if the back was a bit more upright, but even as it is, it's quite comfortable. As noted in some previous comments the cedar is soft but that is expected and the joint section of the chair leg to the body is a bit of a concern over time. I may have some metal outer decorative panels made for the outside legs to act as a giant outside washer and then upgrade the inner washer size as well as the underside washer.I had an issue with one chair I received and reached out to Kilmer Creek and heard back the next day with them wanting to assist with resolving my issue by what ever means. The situation with the chair was pertaining to the back and the part that connects to the arm. It uses a lag bolt to screw in and by an unlucky portion of lumber there were two pretty beefy knots on each side of the board and the lag bolt ended up snapping off even tho I lubed it up knowing there might be some resistance.
