Provides hours and hours of family fun for my family. A classic game everyone should have.

The card colors match but they’re made of more glossy finished paper than I remember. The money also seems too “new” but we probably just need to play the game enough to get popcorn butter and whatnot smeared onto the bills and crinkle them enough that they stop sticking together. Overall this *is* the monopoly version we were seeking. If you want that same game you played growing up in the 80’s, then this is it. Everything else is an abomination as far as I’m concerned. :-)

I don't exactly play lots of monopoly games. But I wanted a version that reminded me of the one I had when I was a kid. Those new versions seem so cheesy. Though, Monopoly is cheesy to begin with, I know. But I'm into the whole nostalgia thing.

After a fruitless attempt to find a Monopoly game in my small, rural town, I turned to Amazon, and quickly found my favorite game for under $20. Naturally, I took a glance at the reviews, and found out that Monopoly has changed. The first listing, for $19, was the same game in most aspects, but the board folded into quarters, not halves, it did not include a money tray, and various colors and styles were off. No, thank you. I wanted the Monopoly I grew up with, and so I looked again and found this Monopoly, a few dollars higher, but called "Classic". The reviews told me it came folded in half, with it's money tray, and was as true to the classic version I grew up with as it was really going to get. I ordered it and, thanks to Prime, I have it in my hands two days later. If you grew up with Monopoly and want what you had as a child, I would recommend this game. There are some different aspects (plastic houses and hotels, the tray is black and angled, some of the playing pieces are slightly different, some coloring is slightly off) but all of that is something I can gladly live with seeing that "my" Monopoly was purchased more than thirty years ago. The price is negligible compared to the quality you are receiving if you are a true fan of Monopoly. While I'm sure the new Monopoly is just as fun to play, it's not as aesthetically pleasing. I am looking forward to playing Monopoly with my family and children just as my parents did with me, and would encourage you to purchase this set and do so yourself!

This is very close to being exactly like the Monopoly that I learned to play on, back around ‘88 or so. That game had differently coloured Chance and Community Chest cards, and it had the iron token. Besides those minor differences, this game is the same. The quality here is far superior to the $20ish current game you can buy at a toy store. The board folds in half and lays perfectly flat, as opposed to the cheaper games released recently with boards that fold in quarters. The cards and deeds are printed on nice thick card stock. The included money tray makes the banker’s job very easy. Tokens are metal, and are the classics I remember, like the wheelbarrow. You won’t find any cats or rubber duckies here. I do wish the $500 and $100 bills had a slightly greater colour difference, to make a mixup less likely. And I’d prefer that the Chance and Community Chest cards had markings on the back to indicate which is which. Other than that, I think this is perfect. I paid just under $50 for this and I consider it a worthy investment. I have purchased some classic board games, like Clue, that have been manufactured recently and I can tell you they do not hold up. The boards that fold in quarters tent up in the middle and they break easily with repeated use, and the thin flimsy cards quickly become ragged. The cheap versions have their place. If you aren’t sure you’ll play it much, starting with the recently released Monopoly is reasonable. If you know you’ll be playing this game frequently, though, definitely invest in this one.
