If I wanted to use these for a princess jasmine costume for the Disney princess half marathon, would they work?

yes, they would work for Jasmone costume. I have blue ones, and when I wear them with white top, shiny scarf, and long dangle earrings, I do look like a Middle East princess. They do llok very stylish and sleek.

The item description says, "if the elastic is tight, cut it off"! Would they still stay on? How would they hold up?

I did not see in the description that the elastic can be cut off, but I did anyway. The pants stay on because the waist area can strech only to some extent. The pants sit on my hips.
