i was wrong about these.
I thought these would be a gimmick; another survival-minded product based on theories born in Narnia, and not reality. I thought it would be cheaply made and ineffective until I a bit of research, and to my surprise these inexpensive little yo yo auto fishing reels are nothing short of wonderful. they are strong, decently made for the price, and DO work. they are capable of catching dinner-worthy fish, and can withstand weather and salt-water and reasonable abuse without corroding or breaking or getting too torn up. for the price, these are invaluable little things that take up no room in a pack, are light, and are a sure-fire way to secure food for the outdoorsman/woman of any kind whether it be for hobby or necessity.

These little guys are outstanding. I haven't caught anything with them yet I have a few out there right now working their magic. They're fairly easy to setup and they are super sensitive so I'm sure if there is anything worth catching these little bad boys will get it done. I would knock off half a star for the color of the line but Amazon doesn't allow for that and the white cord works alright but it's a beacon to anyone wanting to steal these. I'm definitely going to swap it out for something more subdued. Anyway if you're thinking about buying these, stop thinking and do it. They don't cost anything but a giggle and they're definitely a lot of fun and I can promise you they work as long as you use the right bait.

product is great and very customizable but....
It actually works. I purchased it because I didn't believe it worked and it does! This yo yo actually hooks on the fish 95% of the time. I attached a metal spring coil and parachute cord to make it easierto hand there anywhere and on they go. Now the o llyrics two problems I had was the clip and the size on the yo yo itself. The clip is no where near rated 60 pounds like the line and I know because a huge stripped bass broke it when I was running to retrieve it so I replaced it with a better clip. The yo yo itself is SMALL maybe 3.5 inches across so u really need to mark where u left it or it will disapear. Other than that this if a life saver in a survival situation so it's in by bug out bag as a just in case

Excellent product
The flat trigger is much better than the wire trigger model in my experience. The wire versions work, but take a bit more force to trip them. These flat trigger ones can easily be set on a hair trip. These are very useful fish traps. Throw a few in your overnight hiking bag and set them out before you set up camp. They'll catch dinner for you while you work on other stuff. They are also good spring trap drivers for small game, and many other things only limited by your imagination. They can handle surprisingly large fish as long as they are anchored well. Even 4 foot channel cats are no problem.

Made in the USA out of metal
The product arrived in new and unissued condition. It arrived earlier than the seller said, and for that I commend them. The product is made in the USA and it shows! It isn't some cheap crappy Chinese knock-off. The quality of the reels is high for what they are. They won't rust, and they appear to be durable. I checked the mechanisms on these reels and I found them to be of high quality, all metal, and they will work for sure. The concept of a "yo-yo" real is that it allows the user to perform other tasks at the camp site, while the reel catches the fish for you. so while the bait and hook are just sitting around waiting for a bite, the operator can prepare a fire, shelter, or whatever else they might need to do. the operator also doesnt have to wait around the reel. The reel is autonomous. what is so great about this, is that it is simple. Any fish that will get baited by this device won't get away. It is up to the operator of the reel, however, to secure the reel properly to a branch, tri-pod, boat, dock, etc. that is really the only "weak" point (if one could even categorize this as that), I could find of this reel. Anyone looking for a great camping/survival reel should get this one, from this seller.

Works well, I used the string that came with it on one with a three foot 5lb mono filament leadander. Heard it snap back checked the tree that I screwed it to and there was a small trout hanging. He was a little small so I just shook him off the barbless hook. I'll I also repooled one with spider wire worked well. I don't know how people cant figure out how to use them? Pull out the linline, lock the arm, hand cast, nail or screw to a tree or another stable object while holding on to the lock mechanism, so you don't get hooked. Boom fish on. Also work well trolling.

Good for when SHTF
Just ok. Line looks like twine and could only get about 10' or so out before it bound up.I will probably restring them with some 25 pound test line. I plan on putting 2 in my BOB and BOV and 2 more in my bunker. Price is right.
