Its semi-smooth texture supports fine brushwork and heavy layering, making it a versatile and durable alternative to traditional canvas. ## Description Gessobord is a pre-primed, truly archival painting panel for artists who demand professional quality. A superior alternative to stretched canvas, canvas art panels, and paint canvas, each board is built with a warp-resistant hardboard core and sealed with our proprietary Archiva-Seal. The surface is coated with professional artists’ grade, acid-free acrylic gesso, creating a semi-smooth ground that delivers vibrant color, crisp brushstrokes, and fine detail. Strong enough for palette knife techniques, heavy layers, and mixed media, Ampersand Gessobord is a professional-grade painting surface trusted by artists, educators, and hobbyists who need dependable art supplies for adults and versatile painting kit essentials. Built with a rigid Hardbord core, it serves as a superior blank canvas alternative that resists warping and delivers museum-quality results. Each panel is finished with acid-free acrylic gesso for a smooth painting ground that supports acrylic paint, oil paint, paint markers for canvas, charcoal, pencils, colored pencils, and more. Artists rely on it for everything from fine detail to heavy texture paste for canvas, giving them the freedom to experiment with painting, drawing & art supplies in one durable panel. Available in sizes such as 5x7, 8x10, 9x12, 11x14, 12x16, 16x20, 18x24, and even 24x36, full size range up to 48x72. Gessobord adapts to both mini canvases for painting and large blank canvas projects. Our cradle depths include 1/8"", 3/4"", 1.5"" and 2"". Review: A Professional Standard for Permanent Works - Ampersand’s Gessobord is a masterfully engineered support that has become a staple in my studio. The Archiva-Seal technology provides peace of mind regarding long-term preservation, effectively preventing support-induced discoloration. Unlike standard gessoed wood, this surface offers a sophisticated, lightly sanded texture that provides exceptional brush control for fine detail work while remaining robust enough for heavier applications. The density of the hardboard eliminates the "bounce" of canvas, allowing for precise marks and stable layering. I particularly appreciate that these panels are ready for immediate use without the need for additional priming or sanding, which is a significant time-saver in a professional workflow. In addition to the ground being ready to use as is, it accepts basic lead carbonate in oil ground well, providing a versatile foundation for various layering techniques. Whether used for intricate glazing or more direct painting, the surface remains consistent and reliable. It is a high-quality, archival support that I trust for my finished works. I use walnut oil paints and mostly do nature and cat paintings and these are a great value and the size is really perfect for both doing smaller studies and for affordability for buyers. The texture has a small amount of dimple but ive never had a warped or bent one from ampersand and i've bought probably 50 or more of these. On a rare occasion the corners have been dinged up from shipping but usually their packing takes care of it well enough. A really high quality product for a budget price, especially if you can catch them on sale. ## Frequently Bought Together - Ampersand Art Supply Gesso Wood Painting Panel: Museum Series Gessobord, 16" x 20", 3/4" Cradled Profile - Ampersand Art Supply Floaterframe Readymade Frame for Flat and 7/8" Deep Wood Panel and Canvas Artwork, Paintings, Prints, and More, 16"x20", Walnut Thin --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sn/products/13250484-ampersand-gessobord-16x20-3-4-cradled-oil-and-acrylic-painting](https://www.desertcart.sn/products/13250484-ampersand-gessobord-16x20-3-4-cradled-oil-and-acrylic-painting) --- *Product available on Desertcart Senegal* *Store origin: SN* *Last updated: 2026-10-15*
