The Nogent factory was founded in 1923 by Mr. Louis André a skilled French craftsman in the Champagne village of Biesles. An area steeped in history where the tradition of manufacturing knives has been carried out since the middle ages. The "Nogent" name is well respected and identified as a manufacturer of high quality products. The factory sources the best quality raw materials such as beveled steel, with a high percentage of carbon and molybdenum. The production methods are honed by years of experience. For instance, all blades are hand ground and only solid natural hornbeam wood that has been dried for one year at the factory is used in their Classic Wood styles. All the wood used in production comes from managed sustainable sources. Nogent manufactures all its products in its own factory. All the production steps are quality controlled by long term and experienced personnel, which guarantees reliable products designed for longevity and a lifetime of use. 42 successive operations in ten different workshops are required to produce one knife or kitchen utensil worthy of the Nogent name. **Q: Does the lid fall into the can when you get to the end?**
A: Nope.  If you back the opener up about 1/8 to 1/4 turn before you completely sever the lid then the lid will lift up nicely...still attached to the can.  One nuisance to using this opener...there's a little return spring that sometimes struggles to completely return the open to the "ready to cut" position (or perhaps my opener needs a little oiling). Before attaching the opener to the can, just turn the handle about a quarter turn to help the return little spring do its job, then have at it.  Best opener I've ever owned.

**Q: It's impossible to get the blade over the edge of the can, in order to cut it- no clearance- what am I  doing wrong?**
A: I set the blade on top of the can. Back it off about 1/4 turn to seat the blade. Then proceeded turning forward.

**Q: why is the list price on this product $153.00 ?**
A: Probably a misprint...
