Works better than most upright, fixed can openers
I have two of these at my other house, but I needed one here to open cans. I already knew that these can openers were very good and worked the best. It is especially significant to realize the difference in this type of can opener from the regular ones. Several years ago, I had large cans that needed to be opened. However, regular can openers can only handle sizes up to a point. This one can go around whatever size can you want. It can go around the world if it had enough battery charge. I pulled this thing out of the box and immediately plugged it in to charge in order to be able to test it for this review. I went outside to water my corn in the garden and came back in and decided to try it out. I tried looking around for some old cans that I could try it out on, and I was not finding any. My wife found a fresh can of beans that she wanted, and I tried it out. The dang thing just went around and cut it open, just like I have seen it do for over 10 years now. So, they have it charged before delivering. Great. Didn't know that. As a minor note, most can openers have a problem with how to connect the can to it and start the motor. This one is no exception. You have to kind of look up in there where the blade is and connect the can just right. It takes a little practice, but it is doable. I am a fan of this little can opener. It is about my 4th one. The other ones are still working well after 10 years. I tried the other cheap ones, but it was pitiful. I was making spaghetti meat sauce and needed to open about 6 or 7 cans of tomato sauce. The cheap can opener that I had bought was really difficult. It would work for a second or two and then disconnect. I had to start it over. But, I had to keep doing this over and over. That's when I decided to buy this can opener that I have seen working before.

Works great!
I have had this thing now for a year! Love it! Only have had to charge it a couple of times. Opens cans with ease. The only downside is with little cans like sliced jalapenos you have to hold the can or it will tip over. Otherwise such a wonderful product. Would recommend

This is a cool little can opener, but...
This is a cool little can opener, but... The blade part that is removable for cleaning wants to fall off everytime you try to open a can. I ended up supergluing it on to the opener and just doing any cleaning with a brush. It works just as well and makes this opener much less frustrating to use.

It's the best electric can opener, it works on many sizes of cans and it is fast!
I’ve used many can openers in my life, electric and manual. I favored manual over electric for years, easy to store and usable on many sizes of cans. Manuals have been difficult for me for several years, and it was impossible to find a good, new manual opener to replace my old, broken manual opener. Most countertop, electric can openers only open standard sized cans. This little Hamilton Beach ( 76501G ) can opener is the BEST, besides being adorable, it works great! I’ve had mine since 2023 and it still works well as of Feb. 2026. It circles the can quickly and even opens dented cans. It holds a charge well, though I use it often. It does not have a charge indicator light; I just charge it overnight when it gets slow. If I let it run completely out of charge, I just plug it in, wait about thirty seconds, leave it plugged in and it still opens the can quickly, but I hold the cord up a bit, out of the way, so it does not wrap around the can. I have used it to open the many sizes of round-top cans, including gallon size, large and small tuna cans, and tiny six-ounce cans. I hold the bottom of the six-ounce cans, or they will tip. Small tuna cans, I stack to open. I have not opened a rectangular, or triangular can yet. The magnet on the handle lifts the lid, when you lift the handle slightly. The handle also holds the blade, and easily removes from the unit by lifting slightly farther than just to remove the lid from the can. The handle may then be submerged to wash, but the rest of the unit can only be wiped with a damp cloth. When not in use, I keep my can opener in a bowl in the cabinet. The handle and unit housing are plastic, so it should be used without much force. It took me a bit to get accustomed to placing it properly on the can to cut, but I can do it with one hand now. I love this little can opener!

This Is a Dangerous Product
I used to have a larger, older model of this can opener by the same company. I absolutely love that model. I acquired this one with an assistance grant for people with disabilities while traveling for medical care because the other model is in a storage unit in another state several states away, and the budget portable manual can opener I had purchased was awful and causing me physical pain. My first thoughts about this one were positive: It's compact. It looks really cute. It charged quickly. But then reality set in... It's much louder than the older model. The battery life is bad. Worse, so much worse, is what it does to cans. The gear on the main unit is too big and sharp. As a result, it grinds the can leaving ground-up pieces of metal all over the counter and even on the lid. If you're not careful, these really large pieces, which aren't hair-sized slivers like some openers, can even fall into food. If you ever need an MRI for any reason, using this can opener can potentially expose you to the same level or more of metal that you would deal with when performing metal grinding as a hobby or for work. Given the size of these metal pieces, I'm actually worried now that I'll be refused an MRI or told to sign a waiver before having one because of this exposure. Anyway, I've now replaced it with a manual one that cuts through cans like a hot knife through butter with even less effort than I experienced with this electric can opener. And, best yet, there are no metal shards from the manual one.

Love it!
I've been struggling with can openers all of 2023. My old electric one became dull and was a struggle to use. I'm old and my hand-held one is impossible for me to crank. So I got a battery operated one. I was excited about it. It was a little slow but it worked... Until it didn't. Two - three months later, it broke and was impossible to use. So I ordered a different battery operated opener..... It's been terrible!! A struggle to get it to rotate around the can and it didn't open the can at all! Instead of breaking down and getting another electric, I decided to give this rechargeable one a try..... And I love it!! It's easy to operate. Can even use it one-handed. And it's fast!! I don't have to sit there waiting for the opener to circle around the can, or struggle with it to even work. The blade comes off so it can be washed. You do have to be careful because the lid has sharp edges. This opener is golden! If you have arthritis in your hands (and even if you don't), this opener is a gem.

This can opener is fabulous And it's fast
I was looking for a new can opener because I'm in my 70s and my hands hurt trying to use a manual crank can opener I had one of those kind that cut around the outside and the thing was terribly slow and If it runs out of power and you get it stuck on the can you're screwed, I didn't want a counter top type can opener, This one is compact You can pop it in the drawer when not in use, I have had it for 3 years now and I open a lot of cans It works just as good as it did when I got, If you are opening a little can like 8 oz all you have to do is clamp it on and hold onto the can opener and let the can spin around. I LOVE IT it's Good quality can opener and I recommend it to everyone

Hard to Get Situated on the Can Properly
This is a cute little can opener, looks great and the concept seems like a smart idea. It's electric but you can put it away when you don't need it so it doesn't take up counterspace. No cords to mess with and holds a charge for quite a while. I was immediately drawn to it! So what's the problem? The problem is, it's a pain to get the can opener situated on the can properly to open it. Half the time the cutting blade mechanism falls off repeatedly before I manage to get it to pierce the lid and start cutting. The other half of the time I just give up and pull out the old manual opener. Obviously, there's some trick to making it work easily that I haven't figured out. But here's my point. Who has time to mess with a can opener learning the "trick" to getting it to open the first time I try? I feel this is a design flaw that HB product managers must work on.

Easy if you observe the geometry of the cutter
This is a solid purchase and a must have for anyone in the kitchen...I ordered one for a friend after purchasing one for myself...opened over a 100 different cans so far and haven't recharged yet...just insane...it's quick too and self-balancing so you can hands-free it...small...size of a hockey puck...magnetic catch for the cut-out and nice inlay cutting prevents unsafe edges for handling...solid construction and geared low for results every time...no gimmicks or strings unlike cheaper versions...you'll get 10-15 years out of this easily and perhaps longer if you are easy on tools and take care of it.

Tricky
Nice little can opener. Me being the husband i took a little while to get this to connect to the tin edge but once I had and got the knack of it, it was easy, fine. Unlike my wife who needs to use this all the time as she is the only cook in the house. She cannot get it to connect to the tin at all. Mmmm. I give it 4 star from me but zero from the wife.

Great little opener
This is a small but worthy can opener. Opens virtually any size can and it runs a long time on a charge and charges reasonably fast. It does take a bit of practice, at first, to get it latched on, but once you get the knack of using it, it is a breeze. Love the thing. This is our second one we bought, just in case the originally purchased one gives up. We have had that one several years, still working fine, but nothing lasts forever. Don’t want to be without one.
