In Field Guide to Urban Gardening , author Kevin Espiritu of Epic Gardening shares the basics of growing plants, offers tips on how to choose the right urban gardening method, and troubleshoots the most common problems you’ll encounter. If you think it’s impossible to grow your own food because you don’t have a large yard or you live in the city…think again. There is a plethora of urban gardening options to create beautiful, productive edible gardens no matter where you live. The key to succeeding as an urban gardener is to choose the method(s) that make sense for your unique living situation and then give your plants what they need to thrive . Kevin helps you do just that. But he doesn’t stop there. He also provides in-depth garden plans , from upcycled DIY projects and intensive hydroponic systems to beautiful and functional raised beds. Urban gardening is a real, growing, and important movement in today’s world. This fact-packed book is your roadmap to get growing today . Urban gardening techniques featured include: Container Gardening Raised Beds Indoor Edibles Balconies and Rooftops Hydroponics Review: Versatile Guide to Gardening - While the title includes "urban," this is a remarkably versatile gardening guide. Add deck planting, enhance with vertical gardens, add seasons to your conventional garden. All forms of "attacks" are covered: bugs, disease, animals, oddities of weather. Too "organic," but easily remedied, wimpish as to animals, but add .22 for squirrels and 12 ga. for woodchucks. If faced with living off my garden, THIS is the book I would want at hand! Review: More than just Urban - As a preface I'm 100% in the suburban camp - we've got about 1.5 acres on the outskirts of a big city roughly 25 minutes from anything considered downtown. Despite this - Kevin's book has a bunch of useful information that can be expanded beyond just urban gardening in a small space. I've got more land than I know what to do with, but this book still has great tips on using raised beds, creating good soil conditions, and handy cheat-sheets for plant spacing as well as tips for protecting seedlings which is useful no matter where you plant. I think the coolest part about having this book at hand is that I have some great information about outdoor gardening, but if I wanted to grow some more fragile plants or ones that may not necessarily enjoy my climate he's got a whole section on step-by-step DIY hydroponic and indoor planting as well. Who knows - might take advantage of my state's new laws with that one we'll see ;). Great book, a good resource, and cheap to boot! That and Kevin's very active on his youtube with consistent updates, tips, and advice. The book's an amazing resource, but Kevin is, too! Follow this guy and you won't regret it.

This book WILL change the world !! I could not put it down!!
I have gardened in SE Florida for 50 years. Tropical gardens. Orchids, butterfly gardens etc. Recently I became a kidney transplant patient and buying produce is now a scary situation for me. No idea who touched it, where grown constant recalls, etc. I remembered as a child I grew tomatoes and lettuce once. I began thinking hey I can grow my own veggies without fear, but have no idea how. I found Kevin’s Epic Gardening video. Ordered this book for next day delivery. It is Unbelievable!!! I never grew edibles due to HOA no garden rule. Now with containers grow bags and raised bags I can. Kevin makes me feel at ease knowing I can go to this book for help!! He makes it so simple and you learn how to avoid mistakes!! I love it!!!

Great book! I highly recommend!!
I'm one of those people that have decided to dip their big toe into gardening with all this quarantine stuff. Kevin Espiritu came up in my searches and I've been listening to his podcasts and watching his videos to help direct me. Even though I live in a suburb house with a backyard, I am interested in starting in raised beds or containers. Kevin's book has helped me wonderfully in this area. I started with herbs and I've already moved on to vegetables that just started sprouting a couple of days ago. I feel so accomplished! Thanks, Kevin, for your insight, honesty and encouragement. Your enthusiasm is infectious! I can really tell this is your passion and you love it. But you help those of us that are just getting started to not feel too overwhelmed. Your book is beautiful and packed with the knowledge I need! Keep up the amazing work!!

Great Book for Limited Space Gardening
Between this book and Kevin's Epic Gardening YouTube channel, I am learning so much about gardening. This book is great for beginner and seasoned gardeners who have limited space. He addresses topics such as container gardening, raised beds, gardening on balconies, and indoor gardening. Even though I do have a backyard, this book does help me a lot since I am a beginner and I like how he organizes his book and gives a good foundation on gardening essentials such as soil and how to mix your own soil for raised beds, potting, and others. I learned a lot about hydroponics, growing vertically, and pests. Great information!!

Great advice and nicely designed book
I follow the authors YouTube channel, so figured the book would be full of great info too. I was right. The book strikes a perfect balance between being scientific and detailed, whilst also being fun and creative. It’s a great book for a quick ten minute read on a specific subject or for a quick fix of inspiration. But equally great to read in depth for more detailed information. Finally, the book is very well put together - great photography and nicely payed out design. Highly recommend.
