I searched quite a bit to find the IR thermometer that seemed to be worth the cost. There are plenty of less expensive choices on the market but all reviews I found on those cheaper options indicated very low reliability and longevity.The accuracy and range of this unit meet my needs quite well. I've compared the output against several other temp sources and they all agree very closely. As far as durability goes, I've had zero problems with this unit so far.It's easy to use and interpret. The laser feature is very useful as is the lighted display. The only annoying feature so far is that the unit shuts off automatically a short period after taking a reading. If you have multiple places to take readings and the unit shuts off in between them, it requires a short startup delay (2-3 seconds) until it's ready to read again. This is just an annoyance that is easily overcome. The upside to this auto shut-off feature is that it'll save your battery in the event you forget to turn it off.Highly recommend, great value.

This is okay, but the laser pointer broke within a month. While not a necessity, I mean it doesn't take pinpoint accuracy to point the thing into a pan, it is nice to know where the infrared is pointing at in relation to the pan since there can be big heat swings from one corner to the next, especially when cooking with gas.Overall it seems to be fairly accurate; I used my handy dandy instant read probe therm to check against and it was within 10° through the range of oil temps (300°-450°) so I am happy with that, and actually quite pleased. However, there is only a 30 day replacement warranty, and mine broke on day 35... so.... what the actual life of the tool must be questioned. Could be a bad laser, and hopefully the tool will not follow in short order.I'll update after a few months.

Thus far, I have not had to return the unit for any malfunction or replacement. What gives me piece of mind is that knowing that I may ever encounter a problem, the product sports a lifetime guarantee. This unit is easy to use and has proved to be quite accurate. I use it for measuring the basking temperature in my reptile enclosures.

The unit works great! I used to check AC 'splits' (temp differential), water, oven and many other surfaces.The tech support that I used was good info and quick response, minutes, not days.Overall, thx Amazon & CH Eng'g

Undependable. At best. looking for a replacement. WE will see how this goes, as lifetime warranty is no longer covered through Amazon.shot temp on soda can at 60 degrees then opened battery compartment to look for adjustable settings. Found none. Closed compartment and re-shot temp several times at 53 degrees. This was mentioned to CH Engineering in 2 prior emails shortly after purchase.

I love this thing. Point it at whatever you want to know the temperature of and the red laser dot lets you know where you are pointing. The temp readout shows on the LED screen in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Comes in handy for all sorts of jobs. Food prep, window and door air leaks, shop work etc.. Well built and very simple to use. Highly recommeded.

Bought for one use, to read the temperature inside my fire box inside my fireplace insert. Once it hits 500 degrees I can activate the catalyst to produce even more efficient heating. This works great right through the glass and seems to be on par with its calibration. Can't beat the price for the operation range.

Works great, reliable so far. I was able to diagnose which wheel bearings were wearing out on my car by which were running hotter using it. Also use it to check tire temps at track events. Still haven't used it for it's intended purpose of checking surface temps for powder coating work. I really should get on that.
