Book summary of the Martian Paperback – April 17, 2014

Bought this by mistake....I thought I was getting the novel. Didn't really get into reading it....but if you are a student and reading the book it could help with your review.

Very difficult & slow reading. No need for all the scientific blah, blah, blah. Would not recommend.

This review seems oriented toward young students. It's written in the form of a study guide with brief analysis, then questions to guide the reader to learn to empathize with the characters, especially the protagonist. If you've passed high school physics, this review book is too elementary for you. If you've successfully learned basic composition in high school, this book review may seem pedantic. It is not like reading a literary book review in the Wall Street Journal or the New Yorker.But If your child likes science and is interested in space travel or botany or chemistry or physics, this review book may be very helpful. (If you have these interests, you may love the novel; I did. I couldn't put it down.) The review book is divided into chapters that correspond to chapters in the novel. For a child reader, reading a chapter of the novel, then reading a chapter of the guide, especially with an older family member, would be a great idea.

I needed the Book for my wife's book club and mistakingly clicked on a purchase of the Review which is not what I wanted. I hope that I have it deleted before opening the Kindle. I tried to contact Amazon, but could not find a phone number. I don't mind them sending me the Review if I purchase the Book for a total of $9.99, but not $9.99 + $2.99.I agree that the ad is very misleading. It should start off with Review of the Book The Martian by Andy Weir. Then maybe people would catch the difference right away.

A return to McGiver

Like several other reviewers, bought this thinking it was the actual book by Andy Weir, not a "review" of the book. Amazon seems to have subsequently updated the description to make it clearer, but giving this review the title "The Martian: A Novel" by Andy Weir when it is in fact a review written by someone called Anthony Granger borders on deception in my opinion ... not much different from those people on eBay who advertise items that are nothing more than printed pieces of paper. I suggest Amazon remove this item from sale until the title is updated.

A complex story; well thought out and intriguing. The idea is improbable, but not impossible. An astronaut is stranded and alone on Mars. He is left behind by his exploration team when a violent storm forces an emergency departure, and he seems to be both dead and unrecoverable.Plagued with bad luck piled upon bad luck, the protagonist creates his own good luck by being resourceful and persistent. This is a kind of ultimate survival tale. It will appeal to readers who like hard science. Fantasy aficionados, probably not.

Very misleading... Obviously I should have read it closer like so many others who've made this mistake. This is not the book, this is a scam. The title of the book, The Martian, should not be allowed to be on the top of this book, when come to find out, it isn't what the book is. I'm very disappointed that Amazon would support this book by selling it in this format that is so misleading.
