Does it have the clanker inside of it?** A: It rings really well. It sounds like a train bell and pretty loud. We use it to call each other in off the mountain for dinner etc. One caution, spray it wit clear exterior varnish when you get it. The brass spots wen rain hits it. It clears up pretty well with Brasso. That leaves the finish a little duller that the golden bright hue it had when recieved. Remember to get some stainless steal mounting screws from the hardware store. And frankly get a new stainless screw to hold it to the bracket. The steel one it comes with starts to rust. We love our bell. Very classy. **Q: What size screws does it need?** A: I measured the screws we have in it and they are 1/4" in diameter. **Q: What is the diameter size?** A: 4" **Q: What is the size of the mounting plate? Β Awesome bell. It was larger than I thought. Shiny brass. I've included a picture with a play 'ships wheel' to put its size into perspective. Also have a video of the ring. Very shiny, pretty, and a great addition to the playhouse. Only a few negatives. First, the ring which holds the bell clapper is probably the weak link. I have not had a failure, but I may go ahead and replace it with something more sturdy. Second, if you look at the video, the bell swings wide depending upon how it is rung. If you mount it to a post (as shown), the bell can swing out to hit the post which clamps some of the ringing. This can be easily remedied by mounting it further from the post (which would allow a free swing back and forth).
