Is this supposed to come with cork? Just received and there is no cork or even a place where it looks like it should be.

The cork should be a fixed to the top of the cap

Is this product recommended for xc skis?

Sure, especially in the the spring or warmer weather.

The temp range for this is less (high and low) then the universal (green) version, so why ever buy this when the uni version is better?

The universal is not always better it works better in certain temp ranges than others. This is a more specialized wax for warmer conditions that works at being less sticky in warmer weather. The universal tends to stick more at the hot side of skiing. Just because it spreads across all temp ranges does not mean it works perfectly in all temp ranges.
