Works ok - ONLY for one's willing to live with the shortcomings.
First off, Sony does a poor job of explaining the differences between LA - EA1 through EA4 variants. Basically if you have an APS-C frame, get either the EA1 or EA2 and EA3 or EA4 for full frames. I have APS-C and wanted to make use of the Sony SAL/SAM lens. EA2 is for using older Minolta lens with AF motors with screw drive. Don't waste your time with the more expensive iteration if your collection of lenses don't warrant it. Basically, autofocus in EA1 and EA2 is SLOW, takes about 4 seconds or more to hunt and lock in. For more experienced picture takers (and I'm by no means a pro) manual focus using Sony's terrific "focus peaking" for manual mode is a better option in lot of situations. Of course, if quick timing is not important or using tripod, auto focus works fine in spite of the delays. So why put up with the aggravation? Because you can get tons of SAL/SAM lens at dirt cheap prices, some at a third or less of a price of SEL lenses (if you don't know what I'm talking about here, don't even bother to get these adapters). Look for a decent used one for under $115, don't buy new, not worth it.

Excellent Condition for Used Item
These adapters can be confusing. DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST to make sure you get what you want. They are also expensive as a unit, but open up your ability to use legacy glass so you can save in the long run. This one takes A-Mount Sony and Minolta lenses but will not AF by wire w/ legacy Minolta. Works for my needs. Tested with Minolta AF APO 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6. AF not working, but manual focus w/ peaking is no problem. All other lens functions test positive. My copy was super clean and reasonably priced.

Did not work well with my 18-106 Sony lens but it's probably the lens.

You need FW v.2 for AF to work for most A-mount Sony lens
I see many comments here about AF not working. Please check the FW version of your LA-EA1 (in the version sub-menu on your camera). If it's v.1, you need to update it to v.2. Unfortunately the updater SW only works with Sony NEX-3, 5 series cameras and with Windows 7 or earlier. If you have Windows 10, the latter problem can be easily solved by running it in "compatibility mode" (1. unpack the .exe file using 7-zip etc., or run it but cancel the updater so it will extract the files into your temp directory. 2. In the unpacked folder, right-click on the FirmwareUpdater exe file, select "troubleshoot compatibility" -> "recommended setting -> "Test the program"). When I bought mine, it came with v.1 and wouldn't do AF for all of my lenses. But after the update, everything worked, granted very slow (>2 sec depending on zoom).
