Hot Tools Pro Artist 24K Gold Marcel Iron | Long Lasting Curls, Waves (1-1/4 in)

If you are wondering about Hot Tools quality, the curling iron on the right is from 2001! I got it when I went to hair school. ♡ I have straight and curly hair. I need a high temp curling iron to get my curls to stay. The marcel iron provides controllable tension meaning I can get loose or tight curls with the same iron. I sure there are newer appliances or gadgets out there but for me nothing beats a classic. Here's hoping this one gets as many miles as my last one.

If you’ve never used a marcel curling iron, do your research first!!!!!! I really thought I’d be fine with this and I’m cracking up at just how terrible I am with it. The curling iron itself is 10/10 so I’m giving it a 5 star review but ya girl needs one with a clamp so I’m returning mine less than 12 hours after opening the box! lol

I have been considering going to cosmetology school and heard from many cosmetology students that using a Marcel curling iron was one of the hardest things to get used to, so I thought I would get one to practice with. For context, I’ve never done well with regular curling irons because my hand/wrist coordination never cooperated and I’d end up more frustrated than anything. I was amazed that after I got the hang of this, it was so easy to use and curl my hair quickly. Because of how a marcel iron is designed, you can do the curling motion without turning your wrist and apparently that was the game changer I needed. Now for this particular curling iron— I love that you can control the temperature. I have fine/thin hair so I don’t need it to be that hot, plus my hair is damaged so I don’t want to fry it off completely. It heats up fairly quickly and is comfortable to hold in my hand. I love the stand, so it doesn’t damage my getting ready table. I always use leave-in conditioner or a hairspray with heat protectant before using it, but it’s easy to clean off any residue from the iron.

I have been buying Hot Tools marcel irons for years. If you have hair that won't keep a curl, this is a great iron. It gets really hot and makes nice lasting curls. This barrel is 1.25 inches around which makes a nice soft curl. The iron is the same length as any curling iron and has an extra long cord making it easier to move around the bathroom. After learning how to use a marcel, I can never go back to spring irons again. With marcel grips, you can control the curl so much better and clip the hair much tighter. This is the least expensive marcel I have found and it works like any professional iron.

Reaches desired temp fast, and the handle has a nice locking feature. Buttons not in the way. But the grip handle is very clumsy to use. Impossible for me or anyone with small hands.

I have never been THAT great at curling my own hair but this totally changed my hair game! I have pretty thick (mostly straight) hair that is about at my collar bones... I had been trying to wrap my hair around a normal spring curling iron to get a soft wave but it just wasn't working... enter the Marcel Iron. It takes a little getting used to, as everyone will tell you, but I honestly think it is easier than a clip and it must be better for your hair! I don't do any fancy spinning. In case you're interested, this is my process: - I divide my hair into three sections, bottom, middle, and top/crown because it's so thick - I clamp at top of a piece of hair (that is so personal, I hate when people say to grab a "one inch piece of hair"... you just have to experiment and do what works for you. Also, the size of the piece of hair totally changes the look) - I spin once (either away from face or alternating away/towards for a messier look) to get the hair wrapped in a loop around the barrel - Hold it for a second (since I'm looking for some volume near the root... a must when you have thick, heavy hair), - Then I just drag the iron out (clicking the handle as I go down). I don't add any more spins or it makes it too curly - Brush it out with fingers after hair is cool. I get a million compliments and all my friends ask me to do theirs! FYI - this is what hair styles use (usually) and I can almost make my hair look the way my sytlist does = the ultimate goal! The marcel iron gives you more control, I think. It is so hard to find Marcelle irons so I ordered this one and the handle was so sticky that I could not use it so I sent it back and ordered another and that one had a very sticky handle as well. Has anyone else had this problem and when I say sticky, it’s almost as if hot hair removing Gigi wax was rubbed all over it and it’s impossible to take it off. I’m so disappointed because I really like hot tools, but I think I just need to find another brand

I couldn't be happier! It's been years since I have had curls. Ever since I became a mom (13 yrs. now), it was one of those things I just didn't have time for. To make things worse I have your typical Asian, straight, difficult to curl hair. When I did curl it, I remember the days I sat at my dressing table FOREVER... propping my elbow on table, waiting....and waiting for each curl to form with the curling iron. I just remember it being a grueling process and then became disappointed 1/2 way thru the day when my curls turned limp and lifeless. Now that kids are older, I figured it was time for change and missed my curls. I did some research, for I still didn't want to spend much time on my hair. Thanks to amazon reviews and YouTube I thought I'd give the Marcel a try. I was a little hestitant since this did not have your regular spring load clip, but after a week of daily use I got the hang of it. Just like many reviews stated, I agreed to practice w/o iron turned on. Manuevering clip manually can be awkward at 1st...but like everything else...practice makes perfect. I have medium length (just past my shoulder blades) and have a lot of it. I've had my Marcel about a month now and it takes me not even 15 minutes to curl all my hair...no kidding!!!! Best thing is that my curls last all day long. Now I am one that washes my hair on a daily basis, but if I didn't, I could wake up the next day, run my fingers thru my hair and could go another day with only doing a minor touch up to my bangs. Lastly, this iron gets VERY hot, so be careful! Be sure to use a thermal proctectant spray. I picked the Tresseme brand just because it had good reviews too. I will wait to compare w/ different brand once that is gone (1/4 bottle left).

I used several curling iron, curling rolls and the wand but none of them can give me the long lasting beautiful curls. At the end, my hair was damaged and dried out like straw. Not even mentioned my hair turned straight within 2 hours. I've heard about a lot of good feedback of Hot Tools Curling Iron from online and my friends, which made me want to try it. After done some research online, I decided to give the Hot Tools Marcel Curling Iron a try. It's a little bit hard to learn how to use it properly at the first place if you never use a Marcel curling iron, like me. It's quite different from the regular Spring curling iron. I saw a few negative feedback regarding the Spring needs to be replaced after 4-6 months use. I don't want to take a chance. The beautiful curls lasted more than 24 hours when I just use the medium high heat (370 F). Plus, I DID NOT use any holding spray! The only product I put on my hair is the heat protector spray before curl my hair! After I wash my hair, I can feel my hair is a little bit dry but not as bad as other curling irons did to my hair. After I deep condition my hair, it feels soft and shining again. I cannot go back to other Curling Iron. This one is a bit heavier than my other curling irons. I will look into other different sizes of the Hot Tools Curling Iron. My suggestion is always try to test from the lowest heat and slowly goes up to find out which heat level is the best for your hair and holding the curls because every one's hair is different. Always, always use a heat protector spray before start to curling your hair. Do NOT curl the hair while it's still damp unless you want to burn your hair off. BTW, I am not a professional hair stylist but I love to find a great curling tool which I believe I finally found one this time. I am happy with my purchase!
