The hit desertcart Prime show starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant, based on the Book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. This limited edition Steelbook comes packed with bonus content and includes an exclusive collectors’ 3D lenticular art card! Aziraphale is a fussy angel. Crowley is a loose-living demon. They’ve both been on Earth for over 6,000 years. During that time they’ve grown quite fond of it, and, against all odds, each other. But there’s a problem – the Antichrist has arrived here on Earth, which means the world they have become too fond of will end in flames, if they don’t manage to save it. This wildly imaginative and gloriously funny drama follows Aziraphale and Crowley as they join forces in an attempt to find an 11-year-old Antichrist (and his dog) and avert the Apocalypse. Armageddon is coming – but it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Its a miracle!
A TV adaptation that actually does the book justice? How is it so!? David Tennant and Micheal Sheen are perfectly cast as the lead roles. The plot has a couple of bits missing but by and large it's all there but most importantly it retains the 'feel' of the book. My only complaint? Pollution. He is a he, not a she. War, fair enough, ol' Red is a woman in the book (she makes a man's blood run hot and can make men behave in the most terrible of ways) but Pollution is a male character. I have nothing against casting strong female roles but create new ones, don't shoehorn them into places they don't belong. This 'progressive' left leaning agenda that is so pervasive nowadays really annoys me. It's so transparent, you can almost see the boardroom meetings. Dr Who I can forgive, its believable that an alien that transforms upon death could in fact come back in a female form... I suppose. Pollution however is... well, to quote from the book: “His skin was pale, his hair a faded blond, his eyes light gray. He was somewhere in his twenties at a casual glance, and a casual glance was all anyone ever gave him.… He was almost entirely unmemorable” or “Farther down the riverbank sat a young man dressed all in white.… His hair was white, his skin chalk pale.… He looked like Victorian Romantic poets looked just before the consumption and drug abuse really started to cut it” Anyway, that aside, a truly fantastic adaption of a truly wonderful book. In fact, it was so good I even enjoyed Jack Whitehall in it!

A bonkers piece of...
...surreal fantasy but also a reasonably close interpretation of the original book. Add in a grand collection of named and new to the business players and a good evening entertainment is in prospect. If you have never read a fantasy novel this presentation may leave you wondering WTF you have purchased. But then you would not have purchased this just to write and iffy review, would you? A well presented story with a decent set of characters, played by some of the biggest names in film and TV on both sides of the Atlantic this two disc set is a feast for the eyes and ears. (Make sure you have a good sound system to make the most of the sonic range and impact of the action sequences). I only managed to catch a few of the Broadcast episodes now I have seen the production as a whole and could enjoy it fully. Each episodes opening prologue is an inspired means of moving the story along setting the scene for what is to follow without containing any spoiler scene. As far as I can remember the programmes carry the whole story of the book, but not always in the written order, the side line narrative content is presented by both Voice of God and also the storyteller which would be difficult to add into the main plot line in any coherent way, without challenging the fourth wall convention or featuring the narrator as a player a la Shakespeare. As a tribute to Sir Terry's achievements and a tribute to him by his long time friend and collaborator Neil Gaiman I could think of no better celebration of the fantasy genre and its greatest proponents.

END OF THE WORLD, ANYONE?
An odd couple indeed. Angel Aziraphale and Demon Crowley met in the Garden of Eden over six thousand years ago, their paths crossing ever since. Now they have learned the Anti-Christ is about to be born, Armaggedon scheduled for when he is eleven. Not a chance! In their different ways they are thoroughly enjoying the lives carved out for themselves. Time to join forces. Target: that Child! Wickedly mischievous minds have caused "Good Omens" to be. Welcome here six hour long episodes full of inventive wit and complete disrespect, not to mention spectacular special effects. Neither Heaven nor Hell emerges with credit (not that Hell was expected to do so). Michael Sheen and David Tennant excel as Angel and Demon, both clearly thoroughly enjoying themselves. Weirdos abound. (Check out the guest stars, some on screen very fleetingly.) Prepare for an hilarious romp right from the initial baby mix-up to The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on their motorbikes. (The impressive box set contains many bonuses: exclusive art cards, commentaries on each episode, a wealth of extra features. The one on Aziraphale's Book Shop is especially interesting [late author Terry Pratchett's scarf hanging on a stand]. Also enjoyed: the Queen Music & VFX compilations.) All is so out of the ordinary, it may take a while to adjust to the wavelength. Some never will. Others will relish something most decidedly so different.

"I believe in peace, b***h."
Being based on the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, you know that this is going to be a fun watch. Ashamedly, although I am a Gaiman fan, I haven't yet read the novel. Now that I have watched season 1, it has made me eager to see the next one, but also to go to the original book and read it. The whole of the cast are fantastic. Sheen and Tennant do remarkable jobs bringing the strange friendship that their characters have, to life. This was such a great series; great fun, something that you can escape into.

A brilliant adaptation.
Adaptations of books are so often disappointing, but in my opinion the Good Omens series actually surpasses the original. Neil Gaiman was the driving force behind it, writing the teleplay and serving as showrunner, because getting it made was one of Terry Pratchett's last wishes. Gaiman took the request very seriously, and made all the editorial choices with his late friend in mind. The result is a deeply satisfying adaption of a story with an immense global fandom. The best part is the expansion of the dynamic between Aziraphale and Crowly, the angel and demon who've become attached to the world (and each other), and would rather not see it destroyed by the Antichrist. Their backstory gets a lot more detailed, and it's fascinating to watch how they come to the Arrangement over the centuries. Michael Sheen and David Tennant bring the characters to life brilliantly and play off one another so well that it's easy to believe they've known each other for millennia. Huge kudos to Amazon and everyone involved in the project for creating such a high quality and well considered adaptation. It would never have been made by a television network or movie studio, which would have bowed to pressure over its 'inappropriate' content. I cannot recommend this show highly enough for fans of the book, or of either author, or for anyone who enjoys the interplay of offbeat humor and genuine, thoughtful consideration of the ineffability of the story of Good and Evil. (Michael Sheen's expression, as Aziraphale tries to explain the Crucifixion to Crowly, is worth the price of admission all by itself.)
